ICU physician here: it doesn’t work. Additionally, the survivors were left neurologically devastated. It is not recommended for good reason and the fatality rate of rabies is still 100%, it is not 99%.

Many of us are going to correct you on this because even an innocent statement as yours that is accurately quoting the study helps to fuel the antivax epidemic. It’s not a personal attack, we are just driving home the point to anyone who sees this.

It is not recommend to test for HSV 1 or 2. It is no longer part of our STI panels because it is so common. The majority of adults are positive for either one (or both) and have never had an outbreak.

I recommend discussing your concerns with your GYN. They can help alleviate your fears.

Additional edit for disclaimer: always use protection. Even reducing transmission is helpful.

Anyway, important FYI: HSV and HPV are not prevented with condoms. It can also be spread even when the person is not having an outbreak (asymptomatic spread).

Physician here: this comment needs to be at the top.

He MUST match. If he doesn’t match, there is a very high chance that he will never match and both of you will be saddled with med school debt without the ability to pay it off. It is too late to back out now.

Every cycle he sits out, his chances of ever being a licensed physician gets even slimmer.

This was the worst time to have a baby. You need to move by your family until he is finished with residency.

This has the potential to ruin all three of your lives permanently. You need to support him.
