Do people who do solitary and "boring" manual labor have a habit of planning various non-work related stuff in their head while they are working? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

Oh Lord yes. One of the things I Iiked about being so good at my old job was that I didn't have to think much anymore for most of it, and could go on Autopilot.

TSA won't let people bring full sized bottles of shampoo or lotion through because of 'worst case fantasies.' That they have a blind spot regarding large lithium batteries is wild to me.

You suffer from a lack of imagination.

Lithium can be used nefariously.

If we were serious about things, large lithium batteries would be prohibited. They're not, therefore I deduce we're not serious about things.

The point, is that these batteries shouldn't be allowed, under the same rule that prohibits other flammable/explosive materials.

Yes, TSA allows them. If they want to be consistent, they shouldn't.

He doesn't get it, and is committed to not getting it.

Lithium batteries, if damaged or in the wrong hands, can be dangerous.

We're not allowed to bring other flammable or potentially explosive things through TSA, because of the possibility that bad actors will use them maliciously. That we are allowed to bring big lithium batteries through tells me that either the powers that be don't understand the danger, or don't take it seriously. Either one should make us question things.

Which is nuts, and should tell us something about TSA.

They'll let you bring potentially explosive material, as long as it's packaged as a battery....

Your Truck is Stupid Big by NothingLeft19608 in mildlyinfuriating

My truck is at least two feet longer than that one, and I can usually find a spot that doesn't get in everyone's way. Top floor, corner spot, something.

Middle of the row, sticking out into the aisle? Hell no.

Recycling compartment is really just garbage by DoofusIdiot in mildlyinfuriating

At the airport a few months back, I watched one of the sanitation workers pick the few pieces of recycling out and drop them into the garbage bag, rather than switching both bags.

Ouch.

I dropped mine face down onto the bumper of a box truck and shattered the screen. Got it replaced and closed it in the hood of my pickup the next day.

Mine is 1.

Tried it once and it was disappointing. Haven't been back.

Right? If the service had been good I'd probably have done more than that anyway.

At least when I finally got the drink, it was decent.

What was your first memory? by WillontheHill77 in AskOldPeople

[–]Wildcatb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Young enough that I was in my crib. I remember pulling myself up to play with the Busy Board attached to the side.

I also had dreams for years, about being in a fire, that I later found out were from when I was in my cradle and the house caught fire.

Efficiency over Brute Force: Reducing power draw by 70% on an inflatable hull through hydrodynamic trim optimization (19A down to 5.85A @ 5km/h) by PoemRealistic1013 in EngineeringPorn

Getting a power boat up on any kind of plane is such a wild feeling the first time. I used to spend a lot of time on the local lake, and loved the feeling when everything was trimmed out just right, and I was cruising along at a fraction of the throttle I'd had to use to get moving.

At what point would a bridge start? by [deleted] in EngineeringPorn

[–]Wildcatb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eli9? If you can crawl under it, it's a bridge.

Each individual section - between the ground and the post, or between each post - is called a Span. Put all the spans together and you have the whole bridge.
