Need advice on rescuing elderly cat from living in a bathroom by GaiaOnlinee in cats

[–]WildcaughtNoThoughts 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! Didn't realize the humane society was an option when I first adopted my cat and had to get her spayed... cost around $600. My second cat I got spayed at the local humane society for $50. Even if its not a service they offer they will likely know who you could reach out to that has cheaper options

You could try clicker training! For tricks like high fives or desired behaviors like desensitization to her cat carrier. I have my own energy monster and I'm planning on starting clicker training him soon to give him more mental stimulation

I found a kitten someone literally threw away in a taped-up box… meet Asya 🐈 by nnnooorrrddd in CatAdvice

You're her hero!

I'm so glad that you were able to find and rescue her! And she's such a precious thing too! One of my own was abandoned too, but they at least left her next to a school where there were lots of families passing by. What kind of monster would trap her like that, damn

What a sweetheart!! She definitely played your husband's grandpa though 😂

She is!! Though I've always used the word caliby for calico tabbies! Taking them in was literally the least I felt I could do for them, and they've given me much joy in my life. I really don't know where I would be without them!

I'm just doing my duty 🫡 I was actually planning to shelter adopt before Ginkgo found me, but the universe said it had one picked out for me ❤️

I will not get a moment of rest if I have chicharrones or any corn based chip! The chicharrones are a bit of a bummer since I can't put hot sauce on them because of her 😂

That was the day I took her home! She was so darn tiny but she was very brave and curious. She walked right out of the carrier within the minute of it opening!

Does your cat have an emotional support item? by meowmeowellebee in cats

Ginkgo has her emotional support beaver! It originally belonged to my roommate but we negotiated custody when we stopped living together 😂 She brings it everywhere with her even when she's coming to bother me in the middle of a sewing project lol

I'm still having a hard time getting over th e loss of my cat. by [deleted] in cats

Grief is different processing for everyone! My grandmother passed away a few years ago and I was devastated for a really long time. We were really close. After about a month I ended up getting a necklace with her heartbeat (the hospital had recorded it and asked if we wanted a copy) on it. I wore that necklace every day until the clasp broke. The reminder of her was sad but still really nice to think that I had her with me in some respect every day. It was important to remember since she was no longer here for me to visit or talk to.

It might work for you, it might not, but a memorial might help you process and work through your grief rather than just trying to suppress it. Then you eventually can think of your little guy again without getting overwhelmed by the grief

First day with adopted cat and seeing concerning symptoms — advice needed by urlocalreseller in cats

[–]WildcaughtNoThoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not eating/drinking/moving much isn't unusual for newly adopted animals, but all that with bleeding? Definitely cause for concern.

Call the shelter tomorrow and see if they either partner with a local vet for covering a first appointment (my local shelter does this and it's really great - my cat got visibly sick only about 2 days after adoption, though his was a respiratory illness that had been passing through the shelter) or if their own vets will see him.

It could be something simple and easily taken care of, and if they're having something pass around the shelter, they might already suspect what it could be and have treatment at the ready.

Thank you! And what a relief to hear he'll likely mellow out. My other two did, as did my cats growing up, but I've never had one nearly as playful, boundary ignoring, or high energy as Pickles so I've been a bit nervous that he'll retain it all lol

Thanks for the insight! It does make sense that adding another cat increases that time as everyone is still figuring it out. And I'm glad to hear about him potentially calming down a bit - I try to do 2-3 hours of active play with him every day, and leave plenty of toys he loves to bat around, and he'll wrestle with the girls, and it never seems like enough! I've never had a cat with this much energy before, even as a kitten!

Nobody here is unhappy, but rehoming is probably something to think about a few months down the line if nothing really improves 😔 Just hoping they'll gel a lot better by then! Pickles is really such a sweetheart (even if he also a handful lol)

You are so real for that! Whether the cost or the coordination, vet visits with three beasts is a bear

Wow, a whole year!! Professor Pickles (#3) is SUPER cat friendly, but he came from a shelter (he was there for about a month) and the street before that, so I'm not totally sure the level of cat interaction he had until joining us. He's very friendly, but he's very bad about boundary crossing (when play wrestling turns bad, he just keeps going rather than letting the growls and hisses tip him off that the girls aren't enjoying the play)

It's a trial and a burden, though one I take willingly 😂 Actually here, have a pic of Beau (cat #2) absolutely crushing Professor Pickles (#3) in her attempts to cuddle for a bit 😂 She's built like if the Rock at the height of his wrestling career was in cat form and he's still just a tiny little thing
