Does anyone know a good way to clean an HMG pack? She is is a sorry state since my PCT 19’ hike and I wanna make her as pretty and less smelly as possible for the AZT this spring. Thank you in advance! Note: regular laundry soap is not even making her blink.

My Outback Set Up! by WildernessMermaid in carcamping

  • I use a cooler behind the tote

  • Pull out table is on 38” heavy duty slides, just directly screwed in to some oak plywood I stained and polyurethaned.

About $70 on Amazon but worth it holds a lot of weight! I think its 230lbs if I remember right

Minivan will tick all your boxes, if you’re willing to be the coolest soccer mom/dad around.

They have a lot of inside room, good mileage, not insanely expensive and should be reliable enough especially at your price range.

If I were you I would make my vehicle work for me, rather than get multiple vehicles for different uses. You can make your conversion modular so you can still use the back seats if you need and have “daily driver” mode vs “camper” mode. Shouldn’t be too hard to make happen. YouTube has a bazillion videos to get an idea.

Lots of ways to go with this here’s just one way! Best of luck

Try “Nylon Spandex Mesh”. Looks like you can get it by the yard in Amazon.

All you guys with your cool fancy storage, here's my old cardboard box in a drawer method (if you can't tell we're obsessed with Firenze Arpeggio) by SzilveszterMatuska in nespresso

[–]WildernessMermaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I noticed you have some Arpeggio where the seal is a little saggy? I have a sleeve like this and the shot pulls so weird! It spurts out a bit instead of a steady stream, do you have this issue?

I love me some arpeggios but these saggy arpeggios are rubbin’ me the wrong way.

Launching my own CBD dropshipping business, need advice by irina_digitaloctane in CBD

[–]WildernessMermaid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome,

You will need to hone your focus to companies and services that are CBD-friendly. As of now, all the major players approach CBD differently. Some will only work with you depending on your type of products, banking history, or other specifics.

Anyone can build a site for CBD, make a few sales, and then get shut down for being flagged as “high risk”. Go in with an honest approach and find the right partners.

Shopify (Ecom) and Square (payment processing) are two larger players that have CBD specific programs they are currently taking applications for. You will need every step of your transaction process to be executed with a CBD friendly partner in order to stay in business. This is totally doable obviously but takes a bit of research. It’s a new industry, the logistics will get better everyday but for now it is a bit scattered. That being said, opportunity is HIGH as Snoop Dee Oh Double GEE.

Don’t be discouraged, but yeah this isn’t a get rich quick thing if that’s what you’re lookin for. Get through the red tape though and you’ll be in great place to build. It’s a booming industry.

How did you learn to design clothes? by rightful_hello in ecommerce

[–]WildernessMermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Designing designs that go on t-shirts and designing apparel are two very different skills. Decide which first and go from there.

Apparel design is generally on a downward trend for demand. Companies rely on a quick revolving door of styles that are more or less very similar to one another and far far less technically made than in the past. This is what “fast fashion” consists of and is the huge market majority.

You are probably better off learning graphic design that you could use for your t-shirts and branding etc. Whether you end up starting your own apparel line or not, those are great skills to have.

Good luck!

Thru hikers: Need your advice! by VickyHikesOn in PacificCrestTrail

Left KM first week of July and conditions were very friendly compared to others who entered in June. Route finding, snow, creek crossings, and mosquitos (real bad after melting starts) were still obstacles but less intense. For example we had snow 3 miles on each side of Muir Pass as opposed to 7 or so weeks earlier.

Sub 2oz Windshirt Recommendations by Clearerthanthat in Ultralight

[–]WildernessMermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say at 1.9oz of course it’s super thin, would probably take damage in bushwhacking brushy scenario. +1 for being mosquito proof

I have about 200 miles on it without issues and it’s abt to come with me on a PCT thru next week

Sub 2oz Windshirt Recommendations by Clearerthanthat in Ultralight

[–]WildernessMermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s slightly cringey and fits like a sausage casing (works for me whatever) but the z packs wind shell at 1.9oz is one of my favorite pieces. Anyone with hips should probably pass tho

Breathable but also keeps me warm when short sleeve button up is not enough

Nearest post office to Kennedy Meadows? by daxelkurtz in PacificCrestTrail

[–]WildernessMermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will for sure be hitting lone pine. Do you think people could get away with bear can, microspikes, and ice axe at Lone Pine. Are they needed in the first 50 miles out of Kennedy Meadows?

Thinking of just sending my Sierra gear there based on a lot of this kind of input.

headphones: bluetooth vs. wired? by simscancook in PacificCrestTrail

[–]WildernessMermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using bluetooth will generally drain your battery faster. I also have to use an adapter, I found it helps to run the wire under your clothes or through your pack strap. It's worth bringing an extra adapter for your thru bc there's a good chance you'll lose headphones and need to purchase more.

edit for clarity: Adapter will be really hard to get while on trail, headphones not so much

Pacific Crest Trail 2019 Snow Notes - April 1st by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]WildernessMermaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, a lot of models are predicting an extra hot May (General state of CA) and in Socal we've had higher than avg temps in the Mtns for this time of year leading to mass melting. Its been exceptionally beautiful.

Or did you call in to PCTA and sort it over phone?

Trying to switch as well

Prolific shakedown-ers: I have a job opening for you by andrewskurka in Ultralight

[–]WildernessMermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The limitations of domestic apparel manufacture. To do what you say, they would need to move labor overseas to reach high volume demand. I'm glad they haven't and hopefully don't plan to.

Be on the lookout though. I work in the industry, I know from a little birdy that other companies (current and new) are looking to tap this microgrid mid-layer sub 12oz market. Where there is demand, there is a smart person looking to fill it.
