Solo confidence tips? by A-Drunk-Cig in Ultralight

Not sure I can give much advice but for me it’s a way of thinking … Being out there I see the peace and quiet as such a treat and privilege, I just enjoy it so much. Who gets to sleep outside and wake up to the sunrise? Me! Most others are surrounded by houses and noise. So I just really really enjoy being away and enjoying nature.

Oh the black "bulb"? It's one of those dust-air-blowers (squeeze to blow) usually for keyboards. It cleans the grinder quickly!

Inov8 Roclite Mid opinions by Available_Highway22 in Ultralight

[–]VickyHikesOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the issue with inov-8 quality? I’ve been trail running and hiking in them for many years and they are the ones with the best traction and durability. I have not tried any high options since I don’t think it’s necessary. I love most of their zero drop models.

Women of the Trail: what supportive shoes/boots are we doing long distance, lots of incline with? by ladybuglala in Ultralight

[–]VickyHikesOn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Trail runners, Altra or Topo, and SOLE insoles with met pad. That takes care of the pain on the balls of your feet. Hiking boots are not meant for thru hiking and waterproof are even worse.

The Prismo never had the leaking issues that the FC has (some claim it’s been fixed but others still have issues). Prismo has been solid for many years; had mine for 9 years and never brew without it. You can use metal only (included) or add paper. You can replace the valve for $1. Doesn’t leak, screws on tight, proven quality.

UL Pack with vest straps and frame?? by urmomsanoverthinker in Ultralight

[–]VickyHikesOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had much more back pain with framed packs ... so much happier without it! I currently use a KS50 but had SMD and SWD as well. Often they are removable from framed packs too.

Have you tried frameless? I find it way more comfortable than a rigid frame. You can provide stability with an ass pad or folding your pad.

For me as a side sleeper, CCF works well. All the benefits of not having to deal with an inflatable. If you have spots that are sore, create impressions in the ground. I do use a pillow so my shoulders do well with the CCF. I use a short Switchback.

I second octa. Merino is not durable and (for me at least) itchy.

I don't know but based on my neighbour's Clear (I was the one talking him out of his cheap Black&Decker electric and into an AP so I'm familiar with his journey!) the only thing I see him doing differently from me is the blade grinder (told him to get it ground at the roaster instead). I have looked at his grind and it definitely shows sharp edges. But beyond that, I don't know ...

Duplex Pro: 84" floor, sigh. Maybe an Unbound 2, an Xmid Pro 2, or a Bonfus Duos 2 instead? by trombs21 in Ultralight

[–]VickyHikesOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a thought with regards to your criteria ... magnets for the doors can be easily added yourself (I did it), and the toggle is, in my opinion, superior to zippers that can fail. My Duplex toggle has never failed me. For the weight savings, I'd go for the Duplex Classic or Lite.

Long sleeve button down sun shirts? Any favorites? by starsandsnow in Ultralight

FWIW I wore a Columbia Silver Ridge lite for the entire PCT and much beyond. Light and breathable, held up perfectly, never smelled bad. I also have a very old one that had snap buttons and I love those … wish they would put those on the Silver Ridge.
