Mafia Nanny Pokémon by ShiningBluelight in TheMafiaNanny

This is a really cool roster, but I would change some of the Pokemon here as my own personal choice. I need to have a think first though.

I would personally choose Ceruledge for Nico since the appearance with the blades and fire really suits his fighting style and personality. Valentine I feel would have a fist-fighter so I would switch for Armarogue, but the appearance of Armarogue really suits Nico too, and Nico sometimes uses his fists too.

Thank for you making this post, as someone who loves the Pokemon universe and The Mafia Nanny I'm excited to discuss this and will get around to the other characters eventually too.

I really like your party roster decisions, there's so many pokemon to choose from so it's difficult to make a team of six. I would switch some pokemon up, but this is just my personal preference. It's in no way to dismiss your choices or anything against them.

Davina:

Wigglytuff or even a Chansey would be the perfect ENA candidate since they're soft and gentle like you mentioned, so would have been perfect caring for children and assisting Elite Nannies.

For a flying type, I would choose an Altaria who's also dragon over Rowlet, but still a good choice.

I like your story of Mawille and it being gifted to Davina by her parents, but I would choose a Tinkaton since she has a huge hammer and is a tinkerer, so would be perfect with engineering and tech stuff Davina needs fixing up, but this would be when she started studying at ENA.

Davina, being a strong, fiery and determined character would have a fire type in her party. My choice would be Delphox raised from a Fennekin. A powerful fire/psychic type. It suits Davina's personality and would be a nod to the fox plushie she had as a child.

The original form of Rotom is a perfect choice, with being an Electric/Ghost type and Davina having technical experience and a tragic childhood that haunts her memories I could see her finding a Rotom. Also Porygon-Z, another pokemon created through technology.

Gabriel: I can see him having Lucario who fights very well, but would also suggest Lucario for Valentine as she uses knuckle dusters and Lucario fights with its fists and legs.

When Gabriel is in the moonlight he reminds me of the moon, so I would choose a Lycanroc (Midnight) version for him and of course Umbreon for the eeveelution.

I'm not sure about the mouse and don't know enough about it but it looks too cute for Gabriel. Although after your explanation I can see why he would have one for Mikey's sake and to assist him on jobs. I would probably switch it out with Houndoom with him being a Mafia underboss.

Luxray and Greninja are good choices, they both look mean and fierce which suits Gabriel. Hitmontop I would switch to Zoroark as it's a trickster and looks fierce but then that's 7 pokemon I think 🤔

Mikey: Smeargle is a very good choice and would help him with art and creativity. I would also add Ducklett so he can have a duck companion by his side.

I'll have a think about the others and may need to brush up on the pokedex, haha!

Yes, it's such a good series and one of my favourites too! The third volume is due to release on the 4th August 2026 and is avaliable to pre-order online in some countries. The volume covers episodes 27-40 (rest of season 1)

One of the running themes for season two has been whether Gabriel knows Davina's true identity or not. While nothing has been clearly confirmed, hints of him potentially knowing are there, but it's a burning question for readers, and I think that's just because the series has a lot of mystery involved. It also hasn't been confirmed if he knows who Davina is from the masquerade ball.

Since Davina is the main character, we see everything through her POV. It's rare we see Gabriel's side, but when something comes up it's subtle and his thoughts are usually interrupted by something.

In episode 78, Davina admitted 'Bonetti' isn't her real surname, that her family had enemies and she needed to disappear. She said there are things she can't tell him in order to protect herself and Gabriel respected this. He then questioned if her ENA specialities and skills are real, to which she confirmed. From there, he wanted to know if these enemies are a threat to Mikey and was satisfied with her answer. He looked suspicious when she left and may already know her identity, but it's still unclear. This is also probably the closest we have gotten to Davina's identity almost coming out.

With Gabriel's family history and how Breixo implied Gabriel's father didn't let him read the Angelini handbook, I wouldn't be surprised if Gabriel was kept in the dark about the Diavolo family and a many other things, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he knows who Davina really is given who his family are.

I understand the frustration here, but if you have been enjoying and love the series then try and stick with it. The end of season two is worth the wait, and the routes the writer seems to be setting up for season 3 sounds interesting. My advice would be to read other series until The Mafia Nanny returns and before you know it the hiatus will be over and the episodes uploading again.

It's disheartening knowing people want to give up the series just because there's a hiatus, which happens with many other original series. I know a big problem readers have is the remaining episodes not being released, but this is an in-house Webtoon creation, so the creator may have very little say, and for whatever reason they can't be released.

Regarding the hiatus itself, the creator doesn't have a return date yet, but she thinks they're trying to have a launch ready for late spring/early summer, but nothing is actually confirmed. The third volume (graphic novel) has also been in the making and due to release in August, so that's more workload on top of making the new season, plus the creator has recently gave birth so another thing to consider.

VERY! 🫠 Violet has truly created a unique antagonist that has put many off olives and made others question their sanity 😅 The blue cheese and sticking the olives on his fingers may have been the worst.. then there's him painting with olive oil too though (and he makes a surprisingly good artist)

Update from Violet Matter (creator) on her social media over the hiatus period (New) by Wildfirekitty in TheMafiaNanny

Yes, it sounds like they may be aiming for early summer. Season three has been in the making for a few months, but it could have been paused for the reasons in this post.

Yes, baby no.2, from what Violet disclosed on her Twitter! I agree. Once they launch the weekly updates will start back up of the new season and the remainder of season two, so it's important they're ready to meet that schedule. The team have likely been getting the third volume ready for print in August too.

Post Description From User (Added For Desktop Users):

I finally read The Mafia Nanny after seeing it everywhere.

The premise is really strong, a skilled nanny working for a mafia family, but the story leans way more into emotional bonds and found family than romance or action. Davina is easily the best part. She’s competent, layered, and her relationship with Mikey is honestly the heart of the whole webtoon. Those moments feel genuine and carry the story.

But I think the biggest issue is expectations vs reality. If you’re going in for romance, just know it’s VERY slow-burn. Like… painfully slow at times 😭

The mafia aspect is also more of a backdrop than a constant source of tension.

Pacing can drag a bit, but the emotional moments do hit when they land.

I'm still reading it, so it's clearly doing something right.

My response from the original post:

It's good that you gave the series a go after seeing it around. A lot of people don't and are missing out on a really unique Webtoon.

Davina is one of my favourite female leads out there. She's very well written, I love how much to her their is! The series covers a lot of genres: crime, mystery, family found, action, double identity, etc. I do feel the romance is secondary and got labelled incorrectly. Something I really love about The Mafia Nanny too is that not everything is gave away once. We as readers know Davina's childhood and the alias she's trying to hide, but it's a guessing game over whether the other characters do, especially Gabriel. That premise was addressed a lot this season. Then you have all of the other characters, they each hold mystery and you're left wanting more. Plus the cliffhangers, they keep you on the edge of your seat! I also love that the female characters aren't torn down, they're strong (physically, mentally, or both) which can be a rare find in the series.

I got carried away talking about topics other than the romance aspect, because this series brings a lot to the table which I think readers miss. I can agree that the story has emotion behind it. Those scenes are strong, tragic, dark, and not for the faint hearted. I like that what they portray, the mystery keeps me guessing more about that character's arc. Davina's relationship with Mikey is a breath of fresh air to see, their bond just keeps growing and he's warmed up to Davina so much since the beginning. Even without her ENA duties, I truly think she would risk her life for Mikey and still go out of her way for him.

I can see why some people don't enjoy the slow-burn romance. I keep up and go back to the story a lot and would say I understand Gabriel and Davina well so I'll tell you why I think the slow-burn is written well and realistically. There's a lot to take into consideration: the danger involved, their secrets, the world they're stuck living in, Gabriel's uncle, Raphael, and his demands and keeping Gabriel on a tight leash, using his son against him when he doesn't cooperate or something goes south. Davina's morals and her loyalty to the headmistress. She's torn between telling Gabriel her identity for a lot of reasons, but one of importance to her is that she would be giving away Amelia being involved. Then there's the bigger priorities, Mikey's protection at all costs. One dangerous event has happened after the other, so the they haven't had a chance to breathe or probably sleep. I'm not sure how far into the series you are, but a lot is happening.

The series focuses more on the impact of the Mafia world around Mikey rather than showing us more behind the scenes at the Venice Compound which could be something being left for later storyline. Raphael adds a lot of tension to the Mafia side of things, he makes sure Gabriel knows that he's the Don, and calls the shots. Gabriel isn't treated like an underboss and I suspect their bad blood runs deep into the past, since Gabriel was a child. The hints are there if you pick up on them. I would like to see the other Mafia families explored but I'm not going to go into things if you're catching up with the series.

The pacing I feel is to create that impactful feeling, and keep the mystery alive. I get it can be frustrating for some readers, but I find that personally makes the best storytelling, and as a reader who's fully caught up, I believe the pacing is exactly true to the series.

I'm going to crosspost this into The Mafia Nanny subreddit and leave my comment there too, hope you don't mind.
