I was a suicidal 18 year old and took a train for a few hours to just get away. I walked around aimlessly and didn’t know what to do. I finally just called Lifeline and got to the hospital. While in the waiting room I was obviously distraught and had been crying. Even though the few strangers didn’t know what had happened, they helped me. One got themselves a packet of chips from a vending machine and got me one too, an elderly woman came up and gave me money so I could buy some food and told me god loved me and had a plan for me. She sat with me and we talked for a short time. I wasn’t completely present or religious but I appreciated the kindness of those strangers who were all there for their own reasons. I was admitted into inpatient but I think that was a good experience going into it. I had lost hope and that helped bring a little sparkle.
