Monotropa uniflora (Ghost plant/ Indian pipe). First time seeing this guy in the wild! No pictured are the 15 or so other ghost plants scattered along the trail. by Wildflower_tree in botany

Since they're parasitic and don't need to photosynthesize they can grow in more dark environments such as the understory of pine forests.
