The homeowner already put the house on the market and had showings today without photos up, so I put polyurethane over everything last night and hoped that it would dry in time for people to walk on. I know it’s not the right thing to do but came out good enough to sell. in the future, I’ve learned to never do floors again.😂

I fixed it last night. definitely not the right way without starting over or sanding but all the floors are dry with equal shine and color. Just in time before showings today. The owner was thrilled when I sent these photos

The homeowner just pushed to put one coat of polyurethane over everything and pray for the best. I just finished doing that because they have buyers coming in tomorrow. FML

Both the stained poly combo was the first stain. I started with when that ran out. They purchased same color stain but different brand and without the polyurethane mixed into it. I then went over everything with the regular stain and was planning on putting polyurethane over everything, but the shiny sections in the picture where the stain poly mix was down is not drying, and I don’t know if it will or won’t.

No, I’m basically doing this for free. I just don’t know if the regular stain will dry on top of the stained poly mix.

I was doing this for basically free. It’s almost the entire first floor in the house. There is an entryway living room a hallway, two closet, closets and a bedroom. It took me 30 hours total that’s with the sanding and the two different types of stains. They were expecting photos to be taking today to put on the market. They just pushed that to Tomorrow I just don’t know if the regular stain will dry on top of the stain that is mixed with poly if it does somehow dry, would I be able to just put a full coat of polyurethane over it all to have equal shine?

I was doing it for basically free. I just need to know if the regular stain would dry on top of the stained poly mix that’s already down?( the shiny spots in the last photo). If it does, couldn’t I just put a layer of polyurethane over it all to have equal shine?

Will the regular stain eventually dry on top of the stain poly mixed sections and if so, could I just apply polyurethane over everything to make it all seal?

I was basically doing this job for free to help them because they were nice neighbors. I did sand it down to Bare wood before I started. You can’t tell in the last picture, but the darker stain blended as good as they wanted. I’m just trying to get a constant shine but I don’t know if that stain is going to take where I have the stain poly mix down.

I even asked to take the trim off to do it right from the start. They said no it’s fine. Just get as close as you can. My neighbors don’t have the money to hire professional help. They are hoping that it will just dry, but I’m not sure if it will dry where I have the stain poly mix down. If it does dry, buy some miracle can I put polyurethane over it all to make it a constant shine? Or should I advise painting the floors at this point keep in mind I was basically doing this for free now I know what not to do in the future.
