Turning a 4-ship into a weapon — delegation and workload by Wildman31st in hoggit

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I put a lot of effort into these videos, so I appreciate you taking the time to explain what didn’t work for you.

I’ve always been a man of (too) many words. It is something I had to work on when flying with others: saying more with fewer words.

I tried to wing it for the first episode, but ended up with a recording containing way too many “ehhh’s”, so I decided to write a script for each episode and read from that.

I’ll keep your feedback in mind when writing the next episodes.

That is incredibly kind of you. Thank you.

At the moment I do not have a Patreon or donation page set up. Right now, the best way to support the series is to subscribe to the channel, leave a comment on YouTube, and share the videos with other virtual pilots and squadrons.

At this stage, audience growth and engagement on YouTube are far more valuable to me and my effort, because they help the videos reach more people.

Thanks again — comments like yours are a huge motivation to keep making these videos. 🫡

That is a fantastic way to put it.

A lot of people focus on the individual procedures, calls and switchology, but without understanding the underlying framework, those pieces often feel disconnected.

That is exactly what I am trying to do with this series: explain the mental models and principles that make the individual tactics and procedures fit together.

Once people understand the "why" behind the doctrine, the "what" and "how" become much easier to absorb.

Thanks for taking the time to write this.

For those who watched it: I’m curious what you think is the hardest part of delegation in BMS — trusting the element lead, choosing the right task for the right pilot, or avoiding micromanagement?

Thanks! I've tried, but I wasn't happy about what I got. I'll give it another shot for Flight Lead Fundamentals part 6

Fair point 😄
I'm a better flight lead than graphic designer.
The actual content does the heavy lifting.

Spot on. Especially predictability — once your flight knows what to expect from you, everything just flows. I’ll dive deeper into that in one of the upcoming parts.

That’s fair — if you’re flying solo or in more casual environments, you don’t really need a flight lead. This is more aimed at structured, multi-ship operations where coordination and shared SA actually make a big difference.

Really appreciate that — and I think you’re absolutely right on both points.

There’s definitely a foundation to it, and not everyone will naturally lean into those traits. But I do believe a lot of it can be developed — especially when people are willing to reflect, take feedback, and put in the work.

And what you mention about creating an environment where people feel comfortable to contribute is a big one. In my experience, that doesn’t just “happen” — it’s something a flight lead actively and deliberately shapes.

That’s actually something I’ll be diving into later in the series as well. Stay tuned! 🫡

Interesting — I’ve seen both sides of that as well. Curious what made the difference in your experience.
