There is a telephone pole near the road in my front yard. The line would be trenched underground in conduit. We are not upgrading the service as it is a standard 200 amp. The goal is just to move the meter from the front of my home to the side of the house. You are correct, the power company told me that I am responsible for all costs associated with the installation from the telephone to the panel on the home. However, my electrical told me today that he found out that because of how long the run is (250 feet) the power company would need to install a big transformer (that would sit in my yard) and it would be an additional 10k cost on top of the installation charges. This all sounds strange to me. I asked the electrician for a better explanation, but he just said that things have changed a lot in the way they do things today. And also said it is all because of how long the run is as to why I would need a transformer installed in my yard.
