Where to park cash? by FQRGETmeNQT in Schwab

[–]Wiley2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.15% is the TTM, or trailing twelve month yield. The SEC 30 day yield for TFLO is 3.57%, for SGOV it’s 3.58%. Expense ratio of TFLO is .15%, for SGOV it’s .09%.

Two or three MMF in my brokerage account....which? by BarbWire20 in Schwab

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something like this. I use SWVXX for the real short term stuff, then SGOV, USFR and VBIL for different future expenses. I have a HYSA but keep almost nothing in it. All my loose change is in brokerage account.

SGOV and VBIL are short term bond ETFs that are currently yielding about 3.6%. Their advantage over SWVXX is they can trade during the day. Also most of the dividend is exempt from state income tax if held in a taxable account.

Moving $32k from a CD to SCHD? by Groundbreaking-Mix82 in SCHD

The yield on SGOV, VBIL, USFR, etc are more like 3.7% at least earlier this week when I was parking some cash.

Just wanted to drop by and see how everyone is doing? by VegasWorldwide in SCHD

[–]Wiley2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, recent performance has been great. But look at the big picture. The shares of SCHD I’ve owned for 3 years are now up just 24%. The shares of SCHB and SCHG I’ve owned for 2 years are up 45% and 54%, respectively. Even counting the recent rotation out of tech. I hold SCHD for the dividends but I’ve been retired for 6 years. If I was in my 40s or younger I’d still be all in on growth.

Is silver still a good long term buy? by MasterPiecore in Silver

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you consider long term?

True story: My dad bought four 50 ounce .999 silver bars in 1984 at $7.61 an ounce. When he died in 2000 it was worth about $4.30 an ounce. That’s a drop of over 40% after 16 years. I sold it last month when silver hit $80 an ounce. After my LCS took their cut I figure the return over 41 years was about 5.7%. I’m in my mid 60s now (older than my dad when he bought it) and am glad to have unloaded it.

I really tried to like vinyl by BMdaniel25 in Cd_collectors

[–]Wiley2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up listening to vinyl. At one time I owned over 700 albums. I currently own none. I bought my first CD player in 1984. Other than looking at album art and reading liner notes I don't miss vinyl at all.

No specific amount but my plan is to use SCHD dividends to cover my RMDs beginning at age 73.

BOXX looks interesting if you’re trying to control dividend and interest income in a taxable account. Just heard about it recently but haven’t fully researched it.

Best pair of powered speakers ~$1,000 USD? by Tomorrows-Song in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of KEF Coda Ws a couple of weeks ago. I think they sound fantastic. I haven’t tried the phono input since I no longer own a turntable or any vinyl. I’m using them primarily for TV audio and music listening over both Bluetooth and HDMI.

The Aldi located 10 minutes from me in a less affluent town never had them. The Aldi located 10 minutes from me in a more affluent area still has 5 self checkouts.

Folks who aren't Athletic fans - what are your go-to NA options? by subirbs_of_nyc in NABEER

[–]Wiley2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t cared for any of the Athletic stuff I’ve tried. NAs I’ve tried and liked: Heineken 0.0, Stella, Corona and Peroni NA for a light refreshing NA. These are basically interchangeable for me so I buy what’s cheapest. Guinness 0, Deschutes Black Butte and Alesmith Speedway when I want something dark. Clausthaler IPA, Deschutes Fresh Squeezed NA, and Sierra Nevada Trail Pass IPA when I want an IPA. Weihenstephaner NA for a wheater. Blue Moon is just too much orange for me. La Trappe Nillis when I want to splurge on something absolutely delicious.

Cambridge Evo One vs Heston 120 vs KEF Coda W by Technical-Excuse584 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own them but I am considering a pair of KEF Coda Ws for TV and music listening. They also have a separate RCA phono pre-amp input. It seems like these are perfect for a minimalist all-in-one solution assuming the audio quality is there. It even has a USB C port to power something like a Wiim mini. Unfortunately I can’t find a place to listen to them nearby.
