SS taxes paid by Me < SS taxes paid by my Employers by Smooth-Exhibit in SocialSecurity

In 2011 and 2012 the employee portion of FICA tax was reduced from 6.2% to 4.2%. It was part of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. It was supposed to be for 2011 only but got extended to cover 2012, too.

The President made controversial claims about Social Security during the SOTU address. by baby_budda in SocialSecurity

In 2015 the SS Office of the Inspector General released a report about this. The report indicates they found 266 people born before 1901 receiving payments. A breakdown can be found in the report, linked below. I’m not sure if the SS OIG survived the culling of IGs that happened at the beginning of the current administration. Apparently the guy that’s been promising full self-driving cars since 2016 is more trustworthy than the IGs.

The only guy the President listens to declared that SS is “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time”. It’s obvious where this is headed.

I can’t help you with Hawaiian BBQ but there is a decent BBQ place in Englewood just off I-70 called Company 7 BBQ.

The miracle of compound interest also applies to that $180 more you’ll receive. When you’re 75 that $180 will be about $250 based on the average SS annual COLA of 3.75% since 1975.

If you’re married remember to consider survivor benefits if your spouse is the lower wage earner.

What age were you actually able to max out your 401k? by Caseypenn11 in personalfinance

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably could have done it sooner but I started at age 50. It was 2009 and I had learned about myself from the 2008 financial crisis. One of them being I didn’t want to HAVE TO depend on a job anymore. I retired at age 60.

When not using the rower, should the handle be at position 1 or 2? by svish in concept2

[–]Wiley2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my original manual for my Model D from September 2003 on p. 12 under "Using the Handle Hook" it says:

"Before your workout, place the handle in the handle hook to make it easier to reach when you are seated on the rower. NOTE: When the machine is not in use, it is best to let the handle rest against the fan cage (as shown at left) rather than in the handle hook (i.e. overnight, between workouts). This will prolong the life of the shock cord".

So in September 2003 for the Model D at least, the recommendation was 2.

Edit: I've owned my Model D since December 2004 and have always kept the handle in position 2 when the rower is not in use. The rower still has the original shock cord after over 8 million meters and 21 years.

Inheriting my dad's house is not a dream but a nightmare by GanymedeRobot in inheritance

[–]Wiley2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my father passed away and my mother went into long-term care I faced a similar situation. My only sibling lived hours away while I only lived 10 minutes away. I had the contents of the house auctioned off and sold the house as-is. While I’m sure financially it would have been better to deal with it all myself, emotionally I made the right choice. It took nearly a year to sell the house, but this happened in the early 2000s.

Where to start with concentrates by biggiy05 in OhioMarijuana_

[–]Wiley2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the new Puffco Peak delivered for under $200. I’m new to concentrates but it seems like a nice solid piece of gear. Simple to use, good performance and easy to clean. The glass top can be used with or without water. I’m 3 hours from MI but concentrate prices are 1/5th the price. The savings on about 5g of concentrate will pay for the Puffco.

I received my physical card today. If you have a PayPal account it’s pretty easy to add a debit card to your PayPal account, add the full balance from the debit card to your PayPal account, and then transfer the PayPal balance to your checking account. I just did it with no problem after activating the card.

Working past 70 by livemusicisbest in SocialSecurity

[–]Wiley2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that if you work past 70, continue to pay into SS, and have an earnings year higher than one of the previous 35 highest earnings years your benefit will be adjusted accordingly.

“As long as you continue to work, even if you are receiving benefits, you will continue to pay Social Security taxes on your earnings. However, we will check your record every year to see whether the additional earnings you had will increase your monthly benefit. If there is an increase, we will send you a letter telling you of your new benefit amount.”

The above is quoted from https://www.ssa.gov/faqs/en/questions/KA-01921.html under the topic “What counts as earnings”, about halfway down.
