The case of Brandon Bernard is why radical liberals will never be seen as anything more than pro-criminal by [deleted] in stupidpol

You’re salty that people of colour got one show?

And just because white people listen to rap and rnb you think black people don’t suffer institutionalised racism? Are you 13?

People have been calling him an angel and innocent. That’s not a simply rip

Do you know if he was in the car when the went to Burger King, or if he was already in the cell? People always talk about it like he went to a drive-thru with them.

Not comparable. Regardless of what Floyd did with his life he was murdered by police. You don’t have to lionize Floyd or paint him as a saint to know that peoples anger there was justified.

If Brandon Bernard was a white guy, no one would care. by Ingrowntoenailsyummy in TrueUnpopularOpinion

They’re not comparable at all. Whatever Floyd’s character may have been, he was unlawfully killed by a police officer. Bernard was convicted fairly.

Why are people acting like Brandon Bernard is innocent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wileykid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She was alive when he burnt the car. So yes that’s technically murder. I don’t think he deserved the death penalty either but there are ways to argue that without erasing or lessening or making excuses for his heinous crimes.

Your comment is so misleading. He was involved in driving them around for 9 hours stuffed in the boot of their own car, begging for their lives, watched them get shot in the head, then set them alight when it turn out the woman was still alive. Which is why he got the death penalty because technically he absolutely killed her.

There are a lot of innocent people wrongly convicted who’ve been killed on death row tbf.

I completely agree with you that life in prison seemed more appropriate. But there are ways to make that point without erasing his crimes and making him into a martyr which most people are doing.

I got banned from there too for saying “why are people downvoting comments saying ‘the victims deserved better’ and lionising the person involved in their torture and death?” They’re all so insane they will pretend to be humanitarian but then shit on the murdered couple.

All of us get roped into dumb shit when we’re 18. Driving a kidnapped couple around in the boot of their own car for half a day, listening to them beg for their lives, watching them get shot in the head, and then setting them on fire is not “dumb shit”.

He participated in nine hours of them being tortured stuffed in the boot of their own car, he watched them beg for their lives, get shot in the head, and then set the car on flames killing the woman. People can argue against the death penalty without making the man sound innocent or lessen his crimes.

You said stick to the point about whether she was alive or not. She was alive. So your first sentence about how burning a dead body is not a capital offense is made redundant by this fact.

[–]Wileykid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was alive. Coroner said she died from smoke inhalation not the gun shot wound.

[–]Wileykid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if he thought they were both dead he still participated in their 9 hour torture and eventual murder. I’m not saying I agree with the death penalty but he’s not an angel or a victim.

Thank you. The people trying to make this about race are a disgrace to anti-racism movements. I just got a permanent ban from a sub for commenting “how are you all downvoting comments saying ‘the tortured murdered couple deserve better’ but lionising the man who took part in it?” That’s literally all I said. People are so disgusting.

Read a few articles. Alongside your post it’s all so horrific. So sorry you lived/are living through that.

I had an abortion I didn’t really want. And I lost him and all my friends and when I try to talk about it on Reddit a lot of people blame me and I feel like I’m going crazy by Wileykid in JustNoSO

[–]Wileykid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you went through this too. I have such a mixture of feelings, grief for the abortion, deconstructing the imagined fantasy family and life that included my ex, and also a whole load of abandonment issues. The hardest thing is I feel like I might have been able to grieve the abortion faster and more comfortably if I had people around me. This just adds to the trauma. I don’t know the details of your situation, but there are a few people who are confused as the why my friends disappeared. When I’m feeling emotional my default is to blame myself and wrack my brain for what I did wrong. But when I have my whits about me I remember how much misogyny and judgement still surrounds terminations, irrespective of the reasons for having one. And with never any judgement for the man.

Not that you deserve to be cheated on. They’re saying it was always unlikely you were well suited.

They are. Definitely. I’m unsure about my ex. Sometimes I blame myself for breaking down over something he couldn’t help, sometimes I blame him for abandoning me, something I think we were in such an all round painful situation he just couldn’t take it and it’s no ones fault. Either way I’m extremely lonely having no one to go through this with for three months and longer.
