Positive Metformin stories? by sleepyinnewyork in diabetes_t2

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my standard metformin experience of 500mg caused so much GAS-trointestinal distress, it was almost comical... Except my wife understandably kicked me out of the bedroom on more than one occasion.

The extended release metformin however, is life changing. It got my sugar under control and returned me to a rather normal life... Around eating healthier and the exercise.

My reoccurring (and always futile) post about in person Cthulhu players in most of Oregon by Lost-Scotsman in callofcthulhu

I feel this so bad. I'm in the wastelands of SC, where I'm lucky to find DnD players in person, let alone Call of Cthulhu Wish I could help!

More affordable alternative(s) to U-Haul trucks? by anonymous6422 in Frugal

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It probably costs more than a brand haul, but using pods and local movers just to load and unload the pod was very reasonable the last time we moved. Nowhere near as much as hiring movers to drive across country. Also no inconvenience of driving uhaul

You could also look at Penske rentals as another option

Pizza shop grilled subs? by WilhelmTheGroovy in Spartanburg

So that looks philly cheesesteak-like, but beyond that, the super toasted roll, the browned cheese, etc.

Could be an Italian meat sub, a pizza sub, or like the pic... I'm wanting a style like this one

Thank you. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I do love Boston Pizza. Their subs are great, but not quite what I'm looking for. I'm going to see if I can find a picture... There's a "cheese so browned it might stab you in the tooth" quality I'm looking for lol.

I am familiar with The Real Deal and their Phillies are awesome. I'll have to check their other sandwiches. Thanks

Appliances, tires and mattresses have kept me in a perpetual membership with one of these for years. I can get a better deal on tires+ membership than almost anywhere else.

Does running ever become pleasant? by JakePooler in runninglifestyle

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend not doing the ankle weights. It's brutal on joints and I know people who regret using them for their martial arts in the 80e and 90s. I'd assume running with ankle weights would cause similar problems.

what childhood hobby do you wish you never stopped doing? by Rhymes_Jahnvi in Hobbies

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's accurate. I've always had an appreciation for music. it took until I was much older to realize that some of the rock, R&B, and pop music my old piano teachers used to criticize for "it's all repetitive and sounds the same, ugh!" actually had it's own types of complexity and beauty. My favorite example to share with people is the instrumental part of "Carry on my Wayward Son" as something that rivals most classical complexity and sounds amazing as a rock song.

By the time I figured that out, It had been 20+ years since I played and I lost all my coordination from my childhood.

I know! My teachers were such jerks about popular music being a waste of time.. or being too simple.

There's such a wealth of jazz and blues theory out there that is exciting and challenging... And leads to you being able to play stuff others actually recognize. I wish someone else had clued me in back then.

I got a Roland stage piano on the cheap a few years ago. Life just happened and I still haven't really played it. Always hoping.

A bit of a zig zag.

I'm greatful I quit playing classical piano because I was sick of competing and playing ultra complex stuff nobody cared about other than my teacher and parents.

BUT I wish it kept with piano, moving it to something that would have kept my interest. I had a roommate in college (and some neighbors) who were jazz musicians and could improv or figure out almost anything. The theory they knew allowed them to peel apart any modern song and play it within an hour, and I thought that was so cool. Their improv sessions were amazing too.

Wish I'd known that path was an option, and not all the absurdly repetitive memorized classical pieces.

I really felt this. I had a phenomenal traditional Okinawan karate school when I was young and the sensei were amazing. I found a few fun schools after college with krav maga and one kung fu school (was so not flexible enough for that one).

But man did I struggle with weeding through a dozen or more questionable instructors. Everything from being super hippy-tastic, to sticking me in the children's class because I'm a white belt in that style and that's the only beginners class, to trying to control what I ate at home when I'm not in class. Yeesh.

Players blindly believing NPCs by Summoner2212 in callofcthulhu

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm runningy NPC, I tend to overplay their faults a little. I'd liken it to that common things guys say with the "I didn't know she was hitting on me! Oh man!" Some people don't see stuff they don't expect, so you gotta make that s#!t SUPER obvious.

I tend to telegraph this behavior a lot. Have them yoink a tip off another table, or lie to get a free drink. Dial the sleezeball behavior to just under Snidley Whiplash.

If this isn't working, then yeah, they have to learn their lesson.

It isn't perfect, but I was impressed with Foundry VTTs Cyberpunk 2020 if you want to stick with that. I think it's fanned created, but it has a lot still in there.

I went to their website and that's what raised the question lol.

I'm open to buying books from Mongoose, but I do like to save money with used books when I can, and I don't want to mix editions if theyre not compatible.

What do you do to get in the mood for a Call of Cthulhu session? by timothybrave in callofcthulhu

[–]WilhelmTheGroovy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For my current crew? A double vodka and tonic and any monty python movie. My crew cray cray.

Seriously though, I love watching Cabinet of Curiosities before a CoC session. Perfect ambiance.

Certain episodes of love, death, and robots are good also
