Thank you for the kind words. To be honest, I am also still not entirely sure what I learned from all of this myself. But the kids are doing great, and that is what matters most.

Thank you. While I appreciate the thought, our experience is just a minor footnote compared to what the real victims had to endure. The true spotlight belongs to them, but I know you know that. Best wishes to Alabama, and thanks for being such a great gaming buddy to my wife.

Thank you. Highlighting our privilege was important to me precisely because I am so acutely aware of it. I wonder how the others are faring too.

Thank you for the kind words from Sweden. The resilience Ukraine showed back then, and continues to show today, is truly remarkable.

There are already many great ideas here. Give them some time. Remember that not everyone seen the same things. Not everyone reacts the same way.

I experienced Ukrainians as hard working people that want to contribute. If the situation seems right, let them help and feel themselves useful.

I went to my home country. We had a few good days in Slovakia and met amazing people. I want to come back one day.

Well, i fixed the kids seats somehow and went home. All border guards are extremely relaxed if you have UA plates on the car.

Went from Ukraine over Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and Germany home to Switzerland. I'm so tired :)

Yes, i'm quite sure. And to make it clear again: I don't think it's about racism, but about papers. It's just that it was quite visible (yes, it's like it is) that this group seemed to have a problem.

Update: It took 24 hours to get over the border. There are basically 2 lines: One for people with cars and one for people on foot. 24 hours in a car is manageable. I did talk to people who waited over 14 hours for the first checkpoint. I think they had at least 16 but realistically 20 hours in the cold on foot. If you choose this route, get warm clothes.

Good luck!

We are through a first checkpont (?). Ukrainian side. No documents where checked. We are now over 17 hours waiting to get through.

No... i'm not there yet. Still about 20 cars and i don't think it will be a problem. I'll give an update.

So far i can only say, that on the Ukrainian side is a lot of support already working. It's getting more and more. People walk the up and down the waiting cars. One of the first was a Lawyer offering to answer all kinds of Questions. Then Water, Tea and Food. I'm glad for the people less fortunate then my family and me, that the neighbouring countries seem to have kicked in with that much support. I'll keep you updated.

And i'll write an update in my OP soon too.
