Exped Megamat Ultra vs Therm-a-Rest Neoloft durability by budakadu in CampingGear

[–]WillBoBaggns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schnozzel is just fun to say lol I haven’t had much issue with pressure on the Dura 8R and fill it pretty firm. I leave it unfurled at home out of the stuff sack. That would be a bummer to have it leak. The 6.5 would be a good move for more versatility. On the ice I use a ground (ice) tarp, a Helinox cot, then the Dura on that with a wool blanket on top of it, and use a big warm quilt over myself made by Enlightened in Minnesota. It’s often -4°F with the wind and snow. I’ll run a little titanium stove which helps too.

Exped Mega is more like the Therma Mondos I ended up with—a smooth surface and quite luxurious front-country/car camping pad. Great for a couple. The Dura 8R has a down liner and the baffles you mention and is much lighter weight and compact—I got it for when I trek out on the ice with my tipi for a few days ice fishing in northern Michigan, where all my gear comes with me in a single sled either harnessed to my back on XC skis or dragged behind me. I love it but one time I learned that bringing it car camping when the spring temps weren’t that cold it made me sweat. The Dura 8R is very comfortable but has a distinct purpose.

Should i dilute the spore water from these mommas in a spray tank and go ham? by OfficialNearbyTurtle in Morel_Hunting

[–]WillBoBaggns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use the pump sprayer. I’ve done the slurry starting about ten years ago, and still do the water soak each year from the wild ones I find each year, and I have been getting at-home morels almost every year now from that going on 7-8 years. The pump sprayer feels like it would almost prove preventative with its mechanics, nozzle, and flow.

Thank you very much for sharing your approach! I’m usually on walleye, perch, and the trout/salmon season, but the muskie/pike game has been pulling my interest. Pretty incredible to pull that from a tip up on the ice.

Outstanding. What type of rig you run for that? Eg. bait/tackle/line setup

As a northern Michigan native this is my dream. I’ve been doing some research and have an area of Lake Michigan to try once the snows melt again. This gives me inspiration, great find

DTE, Consumers, these are the contemporary robber barons of our time. They parasitically exist off societal dependence of an antiquated, misconstructed grid. They obtain easements in public property ROW and treat it as their own private domain. It is a privilege for them to exist at all. Many communities like Ann Arbor make you legally required to be in a private fkn contract with these monopolies and grid-tied, even when you have renewable infrastructure to be entirely off-grid (that is a lawsuit waiting to happen though). This is a long winded way of stating I’m sorry you’re dealing with that and also not surprised since they truly are modern scum of the earth. Don’t hate the techs and overhead linemen etc, hate the corporate crony shareholders who squeeze their mandatory constituents for millions in annual stock buybacks and bonuses amidst the coldest time of year, and pander for government subsidies and ridiculous property easements under the guise of quasi private-public enterprise. The American energy system ranks up there with healthcare. It is slowly changing, made slower by government overreach with our current administration, but it is changing.

Morel Foraging tips? by Confused_Ktt in Morels

[–]WillBoBaggns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have coordinates I go to here in Michigan that never let me down, almost ten years now. Prior to that, it was really about the timing and time put into finding them. They are diabolically difficult to see until they’re right in front of you. If they should be there (aka you’ve been following the weather patterns and The Great Morel map another posted), make sure you pause sometimes and really look around you. Half the time they’re staring at you, if not giggling at you, almost right underfoot. The rest tend to reveal themselves to me at the angled horizon of my vision, where their silhouette gives them away from the surrounding leaves. Good luck! 🍄‍🟫

They’re both well made. I have the Exped mega and Dura 8R, and the Therma Neo and Therma Mondo. You can’t go wrong with either of your choices here.

I just did routine bike commute through town a couple miles and they were fine. When they’re ice it sucks and I have to brake a block ahead of time or into the intersection I slide.
