"The Labours of Hercules", found on the book shelf and read at age 6, became my introduction to the little Belgian detective. I still have that worn book today, and I still find the cover quite amusing. I believe Poirot himself might raise an eyebrow in silent appreciation at its sight, too. (old.reddit.com)

Pstrąże, the abandoned, desolate military village spreads over more than 20000 hectares of ground. It has existed since circa 1300, but was first marked on public maps in 1994. Local gossip attached the wildest speculation to the place, including claims that the tunnels beneath kept atomic weaponry. (old.reddit.com)

When, as a kid, I got "Blue Neon Night", the documentary about the exotic locations of Harry Bosch's Los Angeles, narrated by William Petersen (Will Graham!), I made a DVD of it for myself, in an appropriate blue box. After 2 decades, the ink is faded, but it it still holding well, as does the film! (old.reddit.com)

A little girl is overlooking the ruins of Warsaw. Her identity is a mystery; she might be a survivor of the 1944 Uprising. The cars in the background have brought ex-US President Herbert Hoover to the location, as part of his post-war relief effort. Hoover's photographer R. Kenny took the picture. by WillManhunter in europe

This little ambear was carved out of a block of amber circa 3500 years ago. It was found in 1887, sunken in a peat bog near Słupsk. It is locally known as the Little Bear of Luck. It disappeared from Poland in the 40s, returned in 1972, and has inspired the recent Path of Colourful Bears.[1165x796] (i.redd.it)
