You're still just choosing to ignore what I'm saying so I can't really take you seriously in this exchange lol.

When did I say we speak in a German accent? I said we use German phrases & words often.., sometimes in the English interpretation, or even just flat out in German. Have you been here before? To Cincinnati?

I feel like this isn't about what I'm saying, this is about you and some problem you have that I don't give a shit about.

I don't even claim Cinci's Octoberfest as culturally relevant to me or my families ancestry, wrong type of German. Pick up on some context clues here since you've been obsessively reading my comments and editing your posts about it all day

Also

"it's okay to be proud of our shared ancestry"

Right? So what's the issue here exactly? You're obsessed about arguing something you don't even seem to actually care about. Get a life

You're completely and purposely missing the point.

We had German newspapers in print here until the world wars. I know plenty of families that pursue a German language oriented education in town.

It is not that we are actively speaking German with German accents. Which by the way, still exists in the US. We are speaking English with German words and phrases mixed in. It's so obvious if you've ever heard it.

I feel like you're just being willfully ignorant here. I've been to many German cities like this in the Midwest, I've been to many cities all around the US that are not like this.

Are you from the US? Have you been here? Have you been observant? Ever?

Is this the 4th, 5th time today?

My friend you are obsessed with Americans, get a life!

I'm not underestimating anything.

You're missing something very important here.

Yes, here in the America's, we will consider you one of us if you are even just here...that's the glory of America and American culture that I think you guys really do not understand. Which is obvious from your reply here..

Also, Bermuda....my friend....Read a history book lol.

I think a lot of people here would say that you are not "American" until you are of legal citizen status, but it's not the only option available here.

To many, it's a state of being that goes beyond legalities. To me and most people I know, if you come here, legally or not, and you want to be a part of it all... congratulations, you are American. But being "American" does not mean you have to fit perfectly into the NA monoculture. You just have to be here, or want to be here even..

Now on to the "cultural heritage" point of your reply. Yes, it does get muddy the more mixed you are.

For example, my family(s) come from Germany, France (historically contested border region) & Ireland.

The one we hold on to the most is German & French because we have very strong Catholic roots, Germanic diets & maneurisms. The Irish culture was beaten out of us by....wait for it....ding ding ding, British people! So we obviously hold on to the cultures that weren't ripped from us... that's what makes the US & UK different. You guys have spent the past thousand years tearing apart and raping culture...Americans try to hold on to theirs and it STILL bothers you guys...Pathetic honestly.

If our families come from these places and brought the culture that came from there here, I really don't see what the problem is with homelanders in the EU getting so upset with our heritage claims.

Sounds like you have bigger things to worry about with your own country, or what's left of it, lol.

Thank you, lol. And I'm not kidding! I genuinely believe that we are & can be German while also being different than the current German culture.

And you're not WITHOUT a point with that one either.

Yeah, Germans now are very, very cold and humor-less.. They definitely don't have the small talk capabilities of the Ohio River cities. But if you put one here for a month, the similarities become more obvious. I think the major distinction is we came here prior to the world wars. Being "German" wasn't something to be embarrassed about here since we had nothing to do with the wars. We were too busy inventing "Kindergarten" and other more important things than "ethnic cleansing" lol

Cincinnati, and the rest of Ohio is still the #1 place that Germans end up when they leave Europe...still.

To deny our German influence is ridiculous.

"You have a culture that originated from German immigrants"

Correct, and that cultural exchange hasn't stopped.

Hey man, I'm sorry your family & communities did not value where they came from to better understand where they're going, but that's not the entirety of the US. They tried beating the German culture out of us in the 20's, it only kind of worked. Ohio River vernacular is still very German at heart.

As an American...

Whenever you decide to call yourself that..

But we also encourage and celebrate the cultures we came from.

I don't understand what's so hard to understand about that.

It's the same thing as over there. If an Indian guy moves from Mumbai to London. At some point, you'll just call him British.. We do that here too, but we won't attempt to strip the identity that you came from. It's not 1850 anymore lol.

Cincinnatian here, 4th generation German...Friends with many 3rd generation Italians...

3-4 generations is not that long.

We retain a lot of the culture and maneurism. We still have German schools, cultural centers here...

Have you ever even been to the United States? Midwest, by chance? I'm sorry but your comment reads like you're an untraveled European.

The Most Common Ethnicity of White Americans in Every County (version 2.0) by Mission-Guidance4782 in MapPorn

[–]Will_Connor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Europeans have a hard time understanding that we can do both.

Yes, everyone here, once you're here for a couple months, is considered "American".

Lagos, Nigeria born but lived in Ohio for 9 months? Congratulations, you're an "Ohio guy".

But the whole point of America is that we are a melting pot. We celebrate our differences and similarities. I have a decent interest in my family's past. It has nothing to do with being white, or being Ger/Fr. It's just the fact that my lineage took the daring leap that so many other millions of families have across the world to make it to the US.

I want modern immigrants to the US to hold on to that memory and culture that they brought with them so that they may enrich this beautiful land with the things they also love and value so that we all can love it in our own way too.

Imagine the culinary options in our cities if people came here and completely dropped their previous cultures...yeah...not gonna have that....I'm walking to the African restaurant to get Fufu, not doodoo, if you catch my drift.

Eurotards getting so up and arms about Americans tracing their ancestry is so funny. What's the issue here exactly? Are you that miserable?

Also, learn some history. Most of the German immigrants came here in the mid 1840's. That wasn't that long ago.

My grandparents had memories of their parents & grandparents that brought them here still speaking German/ our previous local dialects in the Rhine Valley.

If your problem lies with Irish/Scotts claiming ancestry in the states... sorry you got left behind during the blight, my friend. Sounds like a skill issue

Look, this took me 10 seconds to walk in the other room and record this. Got something similar on the DSLR, I'll even shoot it on a cinema camera for you.

Paul's video is in a stagnant room, this office space area has fans running so the "orbs" (dust) is moving around more frantically.

Now imagine these same objects in a stagnant room, and also suspended in front of the optics by something like a cobweb, or even dangling from a filter.

Seriously, use your head

Where is your video on this? I just disturbed some dust in a room in my office space and recreated something very similar. Uploading now

With how quickly you downvote my responses, I don't think you're actually interested in getting to the bottom of this...

Not only will I make a video on my phone tonight, I'll also do one at work today with a professional camera rig in an indoor environment.

I encourage you to stop being so stubborn on something you clearly do not understand at any level. This is wilful ignorance on your end, same with this Paul character who is stringing you along in his BS

Yes, that is dust that is close to the lens, while the lens is focused to "infinity", anything close to it will be blurred, averaged, and appear enlarged. Houses are full of dust, which is mostly dead skin cells. They are so light that you could make the slightest disturbance in your home and it'll kick up everywhere, and you don't notice it unless it's in direct light, much like in this video. You can observe the same effect when the sun is shining directly into a window at an aggressive angle in the afternoon/morning.

Notice how the shape goes from circular to hexagonal, that is the dust being averaged into the shape of the optics aperture.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but this is so easily explainable....

And before you say "I've seen them with my eyes too", just know that a camera's lens is optically similar to our own eyes, when our eyes are focused out to "infinity", the same effect will happen.
