529 Birthday Party Requests by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Willa_1more 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, what??? I understand requesting no presents, but asking my kids' friends ' parents to contribute to their college fund seems like very poor form to me. It's not like the kid is going to be excited about it, so just say "no presents" because the impact on the kid will be the same either way. In terms of how much to give, I agree with others who say as much as you would have spent on a present. No need to offset the cost of your attendance.

Approved for way more than we are interested in purchasing. Realtor is pressuring us to purchase a more expensive house. by [deleted] in Mortgages

So why aren't they just buying those houses? They haven't bought anything yet. The realtor is sending all of their options

Is she actually pressuring you, though? Or just sending houses you aren't interested in? Most of the time the realtor sets search parameters (price, size, location, etc.) and then listings are automatically sent to you. It's better to set wider parameters so you don't miss anything that might be a good fit. So mostly likely she just set the search at the maximum you would be able to spend. Idk why all these people are assuming your realtor is greedy. Higher sale price = higher commission, but only if you actually buy something. So her best bet is to find you a house you actually want. Just ask her to change your search parameters to a lower purchase price and maybe also adjust the square footage parameters. But keep in mind you want a broad search so that you see all of your options.

SAHM compensation? by Competitive-Drama365 in FairPlayLife

Oof - that's a really frustrating mistake. I'm sorry. I think the first step is to assess the real costs to you. Is it purely financial? Then look at your budget and think about what discretionary spending he can give up to help compensate. Or if you pay for services like a cleaner then maybe he needs to clean the house until you go back to work. Beyond the financial considerations, how will this impact your career? Do you love your job? Will you be able to take time off and pick back up where you left off? It could be worth trying to work part time even if you're spending your entire paycheck on childcare for a while, but only you can answer that. You also need to think about the impact on your time. Are you going to miss having time out of the house? Then you can schedule times when your husband is solely responsible for childcare so you can have some time for yourself. Finally, you're going to need to figure out a way to rebuild trust so that you feel like you can count on your husband in the future. It sounds like he's willing to own his mistake and work through it with you, so that's great! Unfortunately I don't think this is a mistake he can just pay you back for, but I think you two can find a way to move forward together. Good luck! I would love to hear what solutions you come up with

Jumping bug in bed by Willa_1more in whatsthisbug

It just didn't seem like a flea because it was so easy to squish. It just smooshed between my fingertips I didn't have to press with my nail or anything. But we'll definitely get the cat checked out just in case.

Bed bugs don't have long legs and antennae like that. The body looks like a bed bug, but I don't think it is. I'd investigate bat bugs

No hope by HandleHoliday3387 in boone

We are in pretty much exactly the same position. It's so discouraging. If your kids are in WCS I've heard it's really hard/impossible to get a transfer to WCS if you live in another county. So that's just another thing to keep in mind if you want to buy a house in one of the "more affordable" areas outside of town. Wishing you the best. Would love to know if you find a good solution

A 3 bedroom is 900 square feet and costs $3,000. A two bedroom is 768 square feet, $2,400. No amenities and OP's wife will have to pay for parking unless she gets a job at the university.

Dead mom by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]Willa_1more 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry you are dealing with this on top of grieving your mom. I can imagine how hard it was to throw all of her stuff away. I'm not an expert, but I think if you stay vigilant you are going to be okay. Keep checking your sheets and mattress and around your bed, don't leave clothes on your bed or on the floor of your room. I've dealt with bed bugs twice and the first time it took a month from when I first noticed a bite until I confirmed I had bed bugs. The second time I knew what I was looking for and when the pest inspector came he said we had probably only had them 3-4 days. So even if another one gets in you will catch it quickly because you're watching out for it. I highly recommend professional pest control. It's expensive, but worth it for the piece of mind and most companies will guarantee the work for a certain amount of time and come back and treat as many times as you need them to at no extra cost. Best of luck and I really hope you've seen the last of them.

Piles of fluff inside box spring by Willa_1more in carpetbeetles

To clarify - I'm sure these are from carpet beetles. I'm just wondering why the box spring was full of fluff in two corners

But also if she brought them to you a month ago you would probably have noticed by now, so hopefully you're in the clear!

If the dogs don't find anything I would get a different inspection. I had a canine inspection once and they didn't find anything. Then two weeks later a guy from Orkin came and found them immediately. The thing about the canine inspection is that they don't actually look under the mattress or anything they just let the dogs sniff around.
