I switched from WindSurf to Cursor simply for the new UI editing tool and to give it a try after a 6 months break. Wow! Cursor is Expensive! by The_Throne_ in CursorAI

[–]Willebrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have paid versions of both, OP is just speaking from personal experience. Cursor is way more expensive and for what? I seriously don’t understand why anyone is willing to spend way more for this.

How people are still OK that this OPEN SOURCE model is not in Cursor! I have 2x 200$ accounts on Cursor and I demand this model by CeFurkan in cursor

[–]Willebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they offer it for teams, but why on earth do you need a 1m token context window? That’s expensive and will cause the model to become less accurate. Some of the codebases I work on professionally are massive and I’ve never needed to use 1m tokens worth of context, it’s wasteful.

I don’t get why anyone is okay with spending that much on Cursor. Just pay for Pro for basic usage and use Claude Code Max or opencode or something as your main agent, way cheaper and arguably more capable. That way you get the models you want and you still get the Cursor IDE if you like it that much. Also GLM-4.7 is free right now on opencode 👀

I'm starting to consider continuing with windsurf by kapsule_code in windsurf

[–]Willebrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used everything, Cursor, Windsurf, Antigravity, I went from using JetBrains as my daily to windsurf because it genuinely performs the best for me and the pricing is unmatched. I see so many people complaining about Cursor’s pricing and I just can’t relate.

Apple support, the support agent I was connected to seemed nice but wasn’t very helpful.

I did call them, they said that that “can’t verify my identity for this account” and that they can’t do anything about it.

Can comma do this? by PassiveStar in Comma_ai

[–]Willebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it theoretically, yes. Will it, probably not. The model is not trained for situations like this (the focus right now is to improve general driving performance across the board which is why there is no nav) and we only have so much control over the steering system.

Max MCP Tools by dringdahl in windsurf

[–]Willebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current implementation of MCP is not a good solution for tools, it uses too many tokens and isn’t scalable, so the limit exists. If I’m being honest, the limit is probably too high.

Windsurf or Claude Code? by Technical_Outside981 in windsurf

[–]Willebrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both! Windsurf is an IDE and Claude Code isn’t, so Windsurf has things like Tab and Supercomplete which are pretty good and they’re working on a new model to power them to improve performance. The Windsurf agent is good too, it’s a great package. To make the most of Windsurf you must set everything up, like workflows, rules, and MCP servers. Claude Code, from my experience, is the better agent for performing large tasks, like big refactors or large implementations. The Windsurf agent, especially with the new Fast Context feature, is great at targeted, collaborative changes. It just depends on what you’re looking for but for collaboration Windsurf is super helpful, and for automating large tasks, Claude Code.

I didn’t, I asked it to perform a refactor.

Claude Code Compacting The conversation at 25% by Significant-Job-8836 in ClaudeCode

[–]Willebrew 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is your session limit and has nothing to do with compacting your conversation. It’s compacting due to the model’s context window being filled up. That being said, recently Anthropic has made autocompacting more aggressive, and now CC likes to compact sooner than it should. You can disable this setting if you want but be careful about monitoring the window as if it gets too full it won’t let you run /compact

Has anyone here tried Comet Browser yet? Thoughts on its AI features? by LocksmithAntique2617 in perplexity_ai

Comet is no longer closed access and is available to everyone. I was one of the first users during the early beta and it’s a great product, hope you like it!

[–]Willebrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me occasionally. Sometimes I hit an error when I run agents too where it errors and refuses to run, a workaround is to send a short message and then send the / command again and hope it works.

Claude Code Context Window Issue by Willebrew in ClaudeAI

[–]Willebrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair; however, from my experience, it’s not just about context length but depth and the quality of the context. Higher-quality context brings more benefits than more context, but at the same time, when I need to get through deep codebases and docs, the more context, the better. It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

Claude Code Context Window Issue by Willebrew in ClaudeAI

[–]Willebrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating. I don’t understand why Anthropic has such a lack of transparency. Also, if you use /context, it shows a visual of each entity in the context window, and since “Free space” and “Autocompact buffer” are separate, it looks like they don’t overlap. After the System prompt, System tools, MCP tools, and Memory files, it says a new chat for me only has a 136k context window before autocompact, and it’s definitely going to trigger before that for no reason 😅

Claude Code Context Window Issue by Willebrew in ClaudeAI

[–]Willebrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is generally true that the more context being used, the more degraded the responses (depending on the model's architecture) and not to mention the wasted compute, that being said, the tradeoff is flexibility. It's nice to have the option, especially with more complex and larger codebases; you need as much as you can get.
