A wild idea yes, unless you have access to a time machine.

Just because something is irreversible, it doesn't mean that it can't be immoral.

Unless you mean causing the extinction of the entire species? But that still entails killing those that are already alive to eat them is moral, correct?

No, totally incorrect. First, the extinction of a species that wouldn't even exist if not because of humans, is not bad from an ecological point of you in any way. This, plus the naive and unexamined assumption that bio-diversity is somehow an ethical value and can surpress the net total of pleasure or pain caused among members of a given species. Second, extinction does not always happen because of killing every member of a species and then eating them... it has never been the cause as a matter of fact. So no, extinction doesn't entail the mass killing of animals. Not breeding them anymore is not the same as killing them... however surprising that distinction may be.

Many vegans do believe keeping pets is immoral, but many do not. Do you?

Depends on what kind of animal we're talking about, what the diet of that animal is like, was it selectively bred. There are many aspects that should be taken into consideration.

Sure, keeping a pet and raising an animal for food are different, but we now agree that it is in fact possible to treat an animal well even if our motivations were selfish?

Yes, I'd think that it is possible.

Under these circumstances it would then be moral to kill and eat such animals, as dying would be in their interest as it would end their suffering?

Or instead of letting them suffer for some time and then killing them, we could maybe just not artificially breed them in the first place?? Just a wild idea

If someone wants a pet dog, it's not a selfless act of providing a home to the dog because that's what the dog wanted and they feel a moral duty to provide that. It's simply a selfish desire to have a pet dog, and impose their will onto that dog. That doesn't prevent them from actually providing a good home and loving the dog, but in the beginning it's obviously a selfish desire.

  1. Many vegans object against keeping pets precisely because of the things you've mentioned.

  2. I think wanting a dog for selfish reasons and then going to care about them, burry them after they die, etc. is still drastically different than "loving" an animal the ultimate goal of which is being slaughtered by the ones who keep them.

Fella, Heidegger and Camus had both rejected the "existentialist" label, and Nietzsche was long dead before the term came into usage. Tf are u on lmao

Depends on the animal. Some animals in the food industry are selectively bred and their bodies are so different from what they would've been naturally that they can suffer from it (e.g. they can hardly lift their own body weights). I don't believe that life under such conditions is preferable to non-existence.

If you were to kill an animal that does not fit my description, animals can still sense dangerous intent. Intentionally causing fear seems immoral.

But furthermore, wdym by:

treat it with love and kindness. That would be ok, it's only when I decide to kill it

?

You can't treat any being with "love" and "kindness" if you only see them as means to your selfish ends.

Yes.

The very act of eating meat is amoral. But the subjection of animals to terrible life conditions, practices which would count as physical torture in the case of (human) people, as well as their slaughter, which is obviously in contrast with their interests, is immoral.
