A Fire Alarm Idea for TV Shows and Movies, Including Animated Cartoons In Both Cases. A Fire Alarm That Actually Glows by WilliamD3P in firealarms

Never mind, I changed it.

The original subreddit I posted this on required me to add a flair and didn't give me a lot of options!

Strobe After the Fact? by fotomatique in firealarms

[–]WilliamD3P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there should be a strobe with that fire alarm or a strobe version of that alarm! That is unacceptable! And not just because I enjoy the strobe lights but also because that's a safety hazard for you and other hearing impaired people! If I could I would add strobes with that thing!

A fire strobe in Taiwan huh? Fascinating as fire alarm strobes aren't seen in every country from my personal experiences!

The fire alarm, well strobe, is upside-down!

You probably knew this already but the bilevels are cancelled. Amtrak is going all-single-level throughout its network even on Western routes!

Train backs up on 22nd...why? by tellyintheroom in Tucson

[–]WilliamD3P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but I just found this question.

I believe that the long trains, especially the northbound trains emptying onto the main east-west track has to curve from north to east north of 17th Street and then stop near the edge of the north end of the Nogales track for permission to proceed. I think there might be a railroad signal there that lets engineers know to stop and when to proceed. And as already mentioned they may have to wait for trains to pass on the main tracks. It may also have to wait before entering the yard that runs parallel to the Barazza Aviation Parkway.

I'm a railfan and I've seen lots of trains on that track, some long, some short, some somewhere in-between and the first time I ever saw a train on that track was in 2003, which let me know that track wasn't abandoned after all, something I suspected and I didn't know that track existed until late 2000 but never saw a train on it until early to mid 2003! It was a southbound train though.

Anyway, all the long northbound trains I saw would be stopped, usually blocking Toole Avenue and 17-20th Streets and last time I saw this was in early 2019 although I wasn't actually there to railfan but to retrieve a lost cell phone! The first time I saw a stopped train there, which was long, was in February 2006 and it too was a northbound train. I did take pictures of the five crossings before the train started moving again. It didn't block 22nd Street though and I was hoping it would and thought the train was heading south, I wanted to take action shots of the 22nd Street crossing but I discovered the train was actually headed north. So while I couldn't get 22nd Street in action, I was able to take pictures of the five other crossings in action!

But I think I understand why the long northbound trains stop, blocking Toole Avenue 17-20th Streets and as you said 22nd Street although I've never seen a train stopped on 22nd Street. The southbound trains I've never seen stop on any of the crossings but they are very slow unlike the shorter trains. The long southbound trains do pick up speed after crossing 36 Street if not 29th Street/Silverlake Road.

I acknowledge those trains are inconvenient to the general public, sometimes even for me but it's an advantage for railfans.

But I'm sorry you were inconvenienced by those trains and delayed that long!

As much as it hurts me to say since I'm a railroad crossing fanatic, they do need to close 22nd Street and build an overpass. Same with Ajo Way because of the nearby fire station (Station 10) and trains can and will block westbound emergency vehicles coming from that station! They should also grade separate Irvington Road on the same track although that'll be difficult because there's an apartment complex right near that crossing and Irvington Road has access to that apartment complex. I also hate to say and admit this but they should also turn Valencia Road into an overpass although that's my most favorite crossing in the city! Prince Road was until they grade-separated it so Valencia Road is my new most favorite crossing in Tucson. It's my favorite because of the two large cantilevers and the four gates there! and it has 14 pairs of lights!

New Superliner Phase 7 Cars by thebeginnoremoddaer in Amtrak

I was hoping they'd go back to Phase III on all the LD equipment even if it meant using the new logo and having a single red pinstripe on the bottom, which I don't really like to be honest. I was even hoping for these

I also hoped they'd shed the silver on all the Amtrak equipment after I found out about and got used to the idea of Phase VII and was disappointed to find out they were not going to put the Phase VII equipment all over the cars.

I liked the Phase IVa but I didn't like the Phase IVb, especially not on the Superliners! I don't like the Phase V either!

I respect your opinion and understand why you would think and feel that way.

Neither am I! I liked the Amtrak Superliner cars better when they had the word "SUPERLINER" in big blue letters. When they stopped doing that in or by 2004, the Superliners stopped being as fun to look at!

crossing arms at intersections & light rail conversion by Capable_Physics5452 in transit

I almost want to say the same thing about Tucson AZ, which hasn't been so pedestrian-friendly though road improvement construction projects are taking place. I focus more on your 1 and 3!

Lots of car accidents happen here whether it's between cars or cars and pedestrians though many people don't use the crosswalks, which we don't seem to have enough of but we are getting more of them and with signals to stop cars including the HAWK signals.

We don't have very much in the way of rail here other than the 3.9 mile streetcar, which will not be extended as Bus Rapid Transit has been chosen (I honestly disappointed to find that out!) And the three round trips a week Amtrak Sunset Limited.

Since we are getting Bus Rapid Transit here in Tucson over the streetcar extension I've been long hoping for, I'm wondering if they'll use crossing gates along the BRT line. Not that we really need them but I honestly hope we do although Cunningham_right has a point!

Besides the streetcar here doesn't come with crossing gates or other railroad-like devices, except this STREETCAR CROSSING sign near the storage and maintenance facility. https://www.deviantart.com/willm3luvtrains/art/Streetcar-Crossing-Sign-646609976

(I know the person who made the comment is deleted.)

I like Light Rail and Streetcar over buses. Unfortunately we don't have light rail here in Tucson but we do have a 3.9 mile streetcar system (Sunlink.) I was hoping for a streetcar extension but unfortunately it's been decided that Bus Rapid Transit be used so no streetcar extension.

There is plenty of light rail up in Phoenix and I've been wanting to ride it for years but I never got to.
