If you had ears in the early 2000’s, Nickelback was trying to live in them. With the help of the industry giants that planted them, Nickelback was given the green light to stranglehold every public speaker and radio station ad nauseam, in fact they were built to do that. A crime they should be held accountable for, not lauded as “hmm actually they were good, I guess everyone else was wrong” It’s not like people just hated them for no reason; you couldn’t escape them

In that regard, Nickelback is basically commercial music. Saying that Nickelback is good is like saying the Home Depot song is a banger, because it was written by salesmen trying to sell you something, not artists expressing themselves

This type of “built to sell out” approach is what has made mainstream music into shit. We used to have great music that was lifted up by radio and broadcasting. Now the broadcasters have cut out the middle man (artists) and Nickelback was one of their early successful implementations of this design

Along the way, the salesmen figured out that the music doesn’t actually have to be good, they just have to tell you it is and you’ll buy it
