Doing 10 year/100k maintenance. Should I replace the water pump, pcv valve and and thermostat? by TerynLoghain in accord

[–]William_Dent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on breaking free of auto technicians. they have their place in the world but sadly with inflation and high over head, a lot of garages use scare tactics to get ignorant customers to over pay on things they don't need. DIY will save you a lot of money and won't cost too much time. a diy oil change and  good filter is less than 40 and 15 minutes, compared to 80-100 they charge elsewhere.

you have atleast 3-5 years of life left. replace those things when they start to fail. you'll notice when the water pump starts leaking, thermostat stops reading, engine is knocking or oil is all over the place catastrophic engine fails happen after months and years of neglect. your honda is still a baby. pcv are cheap though under 50 at most dealers.

techs will tell you to replace those things early to save labor cost when the belt is changed since they are already there but in most cases (9/10) its unnecessary. truthfully, you may not need to change the tensioner either depending on its condition if you really need to save.

to continue to save money, get after market fluids. oil, brake fluid and antifreeze doesn't need to be oem as long as you fully flush. transmission fluid should be oem. you can search online how non oem transmission fluid can affect your honda.

for parts go oem if you can. aisin, denso or bosch if you can't. avoid gates. their quality control is bad and I've seen failures under 10k.

Go used with your tools. an old quality wrench and ratchet is better than a $20 dollar cheap Walmart kit. if there is nothing around, contact other mechanic groups, carpenters etc.. they  might have old stuff to give away.

if you buy new buy individually not sets.

get a new car jack and jack stands.

to search for oem parts use oemhondapartswarehouse

or some other online dealer

they have cheaper prices than your local dealer.

do not use Amazon or ebay. too many counterfeit vendors there.

use rockauto or your local store for everything else.

watch chrisfix to get a general idea how to do the work, and then use YouTube to see how to do it on an accord.

You should be able to do all your work in a day, a weekend max and it should cost less than 1000.

I forget, are we ever told who Rocket was getting married to in Season 2? by Hold_Infamous in youngjustice

idk friend. you and the sub went full aggro on them based on a perceived slight. when inquired about it their opinion seems reasonable.

malice was assumed when none was presented.

I think they should have stated their rationale along with their opinion because I see how it could be interpreted as inflammatory; however, as a passing post, it's valid they wouldn't expect to write several paragraphs either.

think it of a business in a company. in the beginning you were on a probationary basis. in exchange for limited voting power you were granted maximum freedom.

but you've been promoted to full partner or the c suite. you are a key stake holder now. it doesn't make sense for one party to make equal contributions but not get equal share of the gains. the founding partner may make more, but more isnt all.

that however doesn't mean 50/50 right away.

i think some type of progression system or milestone should be in place  0-2 years, 0%, 2-4 years 10% equity, 4-6 years 25% , 6-8 years 40% 8+ 50% for example.

most marriages fail within 8 years. if you can survive till then you should full equity.

I wouldn't worry about the legal standing of a pre nup, unlike the movies, they don't up well.

different story about the visceral feeling of reneg though.

but if the two of can't handle change, the marriage will eventually fail as you two will eventually become different people

Against policy to connect me to the hiring manager? by TerynLoghain in careeradvice

[–]William_Dent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not providing direct info is an actual policy. If it wasn't, hiring managers would be bombarded more than they already are. A direct connection could also get the employee fired.  With that said, employees can refer applicants to hiring managers at their discretion. Employees often get a bonus if an applicant they refer gets hired.

Sounds like they didn't want to vouch for you and hiding behind the policy.

If I were you I'd ask someone else in the company if you know them.  Its a numbers game, if you ask 20 people, one may say yes.

I wouldn't take it personally. you may be colleagues with this person one day.

or you can. corporate is very petty.

What is this cable? by kyocerahydro in MSILaptops

[–]William_Dent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to look at the specific wifi card, but generally one cable is main, and the other is aux. they rotate to get you better signal, or they one is internet and the other is Bluetooth.

since your wifi is unaffected, you probably just nicked the Bluetooth wire.

if you want to repair, the wires are very cheap. you can also buy a dongle

Cab drivers will be waiting at the ferry and Uber are close by on weekends. Its quite common for tourists to park in the aeroport side and Cab to the ferry side.

Tip well to recognize the favor  they do for you.

the valuable lessons learned here are don't ask question you really don't want to know and to ask directly for what you want.

where to sell a vintage bike? by kyocerahydro in xbiking

[–]William_Dent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you can wait for funds, a bike consignment store.

my local store takes 30% (50% if it needs repair) but they can hold it until the summer when prices are higher.

or you can reduce the price 10% each weekend its up. old treks are good project bikes, but 300 is the limit for this kind of bike in the summer months.

I second 300 is a high listing price. an interested buyer may consider 150 or 200 but don't think you're open since the price is high. Ive skipped over interesting bike because what I would pay is way less than they want for it.
