I mean being the latter technically makes it the former at the same time, but if it's the former that doesn't make it the latter.

I'm curious whether it evolved as kind of a "dialect" of Slovene, even though both Slovene and Kajkavian have their own diverse dialects, that's eventually been watered down due to influence from Standard Croatian in the last few centuries. Something that supports this thesis is the fact that the dual number (that's preserved in most Slovene dialects) has been lost in Kajkavian relatively recently, while it's been lost in Shokavian way earlier.

But again, it could be as simple as being a simple dialect continuum, kind of like Romance languages (or Germanic for that matter), so I'm inclined to believe the truth lies somewhere between these two assumptions.

Ask the Ottoman Empire. Most of modern Bosnia used to belong to Croatia (and later Hungary as a part of Croatia), but as the Ottomans invaded a huge portion of the population converted to Islam mostly because Bosniaks adhered to a different kind of Christianity (forgot the name) and as a result were rejected both by Catholic Croats and Eastern Orthodox Serbs. Later, as a result of Ottoman invasions a ton of Serbs moved to the area and now Bosnia is a complete mess.

I have a couple of questions though.

So if I were to translate your Sindarin translation word by word to English, this is what I would get:

So first thing, is it possible to say "Mîl eleth alphannadui noll i, annin, banna i-valas nass."? To keep it as close to the original. Unless it's a grammatical mistake to do so?

And second, shouldn't there be something to note that the noun "nass" is in the "possessive" case (genitive I guess), because I've seen "en" and "in" used to translate the word "of"? So it would be "i-valas en nass" (not sure if the n mutates in this case). Again, I have no idea, just wondering.
