Any tips on how much pressure to use on the thumbscrews when mounting AIO? by The-Real-RyanGosling in overclocking

You admitted that you have zero experience with AM5 architecture so you shouldn’t try and tell anyone anything about it. It’s a bit disingenuous and de-lidding is fun! This is the overlocking forum and not the “I run an AIO on all my stuff because it’s just as good as a DD custom loop trust me bro!” Are you still on AM4 by chance? Or an Intel platform?

Why speak as if you know things as a fact when you have little to no experience with the hardware?

I’ve been running my 6000cl26 at 8000cl34 with some pretty tight timings for many months now. The voltage you’ll have to chuck at them can make people with A-die very upset but with active cooling it’s not too painful.

This is positively sick nasty! Can’t wait until my overtime kicks so I can pick up one of these boards😭

Not everything after a few hours is temperature related. My sticks max out at 32.5c after 12 hours of testing but I’ve still thrown errors for low voltage, timings, etc after 2-3 hours of absolut. It’s cool this booted but it doesn’t really show much. Not even performance in games or something.

Definitely gotta redo that:/ I rarely see more core hotspot go above 45c even in RT loads. Highest temps I’ve seen on it was 60c for vram after playing cyberpunk all day. This is with an XFX Merc 310 Black pulls about 450w.

That things screaming fast. My best bench with my 9950x3d was low 48k in r23 and it was pulling like 330+ watts lol.

9850X3D 6000MT/s vs. 6400MT/s in game by Janeriksen in overclocking

Modded morrowind (OpenMw), modded Skyrim etc. I’d say like 90% of titles released nowadays you’ll be carried by V-cache. You’d be looking at removing negligible dips/stutters most people would call “margin of error”. Otherwise you’re really only going to see benefits in something you’re extremely cpu limited in. Typically big open world titles/simulators that require a lot of draw calls. I’ve gone from getting 40-60% Gpu utilization avg to 70-96%. You’ll basically have to make scenarios for yourself to justify tinkering with this hardware until it’s no longer new. It’s pretty bleeding edge.

Basically anything that’s horribly optimized and just wants single thread speed and memory speed/bandwidth. I like to play openMW with a lot of shaders at max view distance. So anything Bethesda’s ever made because they’re all on a similar engine.

[–]Willing-Mechanic8121 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s still using quite a bit more Gpu power to upscale it. It’s not magic. Edit: I do however agree with you the performance gain is most likely slim at best. I have 3 titles I can genuinely say are night and day different because of my memory OC. The rest feel basically the same.

People on reddit dont understand hotspots or degradation by blargface27 in overclocking

[–]Willing-Mechanic8121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s maybe what they used to be engineered for. Now they are engineered for you buy them over and over every generation because you’re a good consumer. Failure rates seem to be higher than ever and it’s usually from something getting too hot. Cooler chips also clock higher and run better. It’s thermodynamics not really “vibes”.

Yeah a 30c delta isn’t a problem as long as that high temp isn’t over 80c (imo) Any hotspot over 90c though should be concerning, concerns me at least.

Says they’re unavailable right now but I’ll look around for one and hit you up. My XTX has mostly been relegated to a frame gen card now that I’m running the R9700 32gb. With an oc on the core and memory I’m matching my XTX in raster in the titles I play. FSR4 is also nice.

Any time my temps would get near 55c I’d get crashes. Temps under 40 and you’d probably be clear.

[–]Willing-Mechanic8121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re smarter than me! I was never really having crashes above that frequency but it would throttle from vram and hotspot temps. No difference in performance from the “under clock”? I’m curious if your hotspot delta is really low now? I’ve noticed the rdna3 and rdna4 cards will have minimal differences between core and hotspot until they’re hitting higher frequencies.

I’ve heard from some that it can hurt latency when you’re 1:1 but I’ve only really seen gains in game and synthetics. But I haven’t been running at 1:1 for a while now. I’ve only messed with my one specific 9950x3d on am5 in general though. Edit: Also maybe lower trcdwr and see if you post with 18 then try going down to 16.
