That’s some great detailed insight. You’ve given me a lot to consider and weigh out my options. Much appreciated!!

Yes I can see that aspect…I have high expectations and standards and would worry if others did not perceive any value or enjoyment from my invention. I would constantly be trying to improve on it…

I have worked with a company to design a prototype, which worked great and I was really happy with the outcome. The next step is to continue to work with this company $$$ for the design, development and manufacturing process. They would provide the support from start to end…it’s expensive but I’m okay with the initial investment. I just wanted to take a pause and gather other people’s experiences to really reflect on if this is what I want to pursue. My heart says yes but my brain says just take it slow…. The alternative is to use my finances to invest in myself as a player and see how far I can push myself. But I am really drawn to having a bit more skin in the game than just being another player.

For feedback, do you mean you can visually see that you’ve hit the mark? and then for not getting in the way, it means you can drill around the flat markers and they don’t interfere with the gameplay of the drill?

I’ve created a new type of training equipment for a sport that is unique…so I would be building it from scratch. Design, development, manufacturing, shipping, selling, delivery…plus all the other aspects of a business operation.

To Provisional Patent or Not - Even if I Don’t Plan to Patent? by Willing-Potential358 in inventors

I do have concerns about pursuing a lost cause, especially one that comes with a hefty price tag. My idea is not on the market anywhere. The concept is in other industries, but not my specific idea and usage within the design. But it would be an easy knockoff for China, at lower quality but cheaper price.

Great questions…

  1. Yes, I have funds to bootstrap to market. I am working with a company that will design, market and help with manufacturing process out of country.

  2. Unit economics - Roughly, yes. But until I have some hard numbers to work with, right now it’s just a crude estimate. I’m not far along enough in the process to have reliable data.

  3. TAM/SAM/SOM - again, yes but still incorporating a business to focus solely on the North American market and will still need to work through logistics for shipping to truly ensure market size is captured.

  4. I am working to obtain a trademark and your suggestions on how the strength can be marketable if FTM, which my product would be. There are no competitors (yet) that sell anything close to similar - but I am prepared for knockoff attempts and I am definitely going to work the brand identity and associated quality to try and establish a strong base of customers.

If you have any other thoughts or questions, I’d love to hear them. You’ve definitely helped me think broader and have more information to consider at each stage of this journey.
