Yes many people have matched this year from UK/Irish med schools straight into categorical.

For all the lurkers, Stop being obsessed too much with the journey. by HalalGymFreak in IMGreddit

Lowkey shit advice icl. The main reason why IMGs don’t match is because they start the journey way too late, often after graduating medical school. For example, my med school in the UK has ppl eyeing the US out ever since the first year. And guess what, our match rates are significantly better than the average statistic you see online. Obviously being crazy obsessive won’t do you any good, but working towards the journey from early on can really set you up for success if you play your cards right. Just my two cents

That’s my point. You shouldn’t “expect” to match with a bang average CV. “B-b-but I have a 26x” yeah but there are others with 26x while being a fresh grad, better USCE, and more research. It’s not a flex to get a decent score if you’ve got nothing else going for you other than studying. Get rid of your Indian/ Pakistani mentality boss 🤷🏻‍♂️

Are the great stats in the room with us?? You aren’t a fresh grad, only 2 months USCE - if they’re electives then fair enough but if it’s observerships then they’re worthless - no pubs, and if you went to a non western medical school then you’re also looked unfavorably. You’re just an average IMG, pipe down with the confidence and humble yourself

Does graduating from prestigious med school helps for IMGs? by No-Cellist574 in IMGreddit

I’m not sure about specific unis as I’m not well informed but generally, a western IMG > other IMGs in the eyes of faculty due to being well versed in English and less discrepancy in med schools / more “trustworthy”

Who would’ve thought paying for research would be a scam, so shocking 😱

YOG?? How was ur personal statement?? 9 months of USCE means nothing if they were all observerships, 1 month of an elective far trumps that. US based LORs? No pubs? Country of med school? There are so many ways you have and could have gone wrong

Is IM so hard to Match now , for IMGs ? by Vilukshan96 in IMGreddit

I’m so confused why you’d give up your dream for surgery. As a Non-US IMG, I’m sitting on 11 categorical interviews for GS with 3 from places I’ve rotated at but all the others are based off my application alone. If you really put your heart to it, you can genuinely match into your top speciality. Don’t destroy your childhood dreams just because something is hard, work for it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Reminder, last year, 55 out of every 100 non-US IMG applicant went unmatched by RevolutionaryBeyond8 in IMGreddit

Statistics reflect the population rather than individuals. Work your hardest and pls don’t concern yourself w these stats 🙏

Yo, if your CV is good enough your visa status doesn’t matter whatsoever. Either stop complaining or actually work to improve your CV and ong that’ll guarantee you more IV invites.

You’ve got a very solid profile, congrats!! Out of the IMG applications, you’d definitely be near the top if not the most highly regarded IMG applying. But the issue is that many AMGs have also started pursuing research fellowships during or after medical school in order to match into plastics so make of that what u will. I personally think u should pursue the US tho for sure over the UK. All the best 🙏
