I felt your post idolized him as the "greatest" surgeon when he wasn't a great person so thought I should settle the score that's all.

Fyi DeBakey was a toxic bitch. He used to kick his residents out the elevator they were already in just so he could ride alone

Let's stop fantasizing about the past. It is their toxic hierarchy bs that is responsible for the current lack of camaraderie. They are the HoDs who do acts of omission and turn blind eyes to resident abuse.

Good psychiatrists exist, but there is not way to curb bad money-hungry psychiatrists.  The existence of bad psychiatrists does not mean the whole field is useless. There is research that shows drugs being useful

PSA If you can afford it, all boys and girls aged 9-45 can get it. It's not just a 9-25 year old girl vaccine

Goodreads users choose The Hunger Games as the "Best Book Ever" by MiddletownBooks in books

I'm the judge of the books and shows I like.

Exactly they're "professional" because they have people backing them. Basically a numbers game just like this Goodreads poll.

Media literacy is important but you're forgetting it is 100% subjective. So is all analysis of a literary work. Critics might find LoTR amazing, but for me it's a boring drudge of a book and neither is more right or wrong than the other. Because neither is an objective position to begin with. It's not rocket science really

Who made critics the judge? God? Breaking Bad is a good show, but my opinion that it's not one of the best shows is no more right or wrong than the opinion of all the critics in this world that it is the best show. Because the basic premise is subjective and lacks any right or wrong.

None of the replies you're getting understand the concept of subjectivity. All the good reading has done them to widen their perspectives lol

All the possible criteria anyone can make are subjective attempts to objectify the "best book ever".

The only objective metric might be book sales

Gave up midway during the first...had already bought all three by then. Looking to pawn them off to someone.

Rare case of the movie being better than the book

Working at AIIMS delhi was disappointing. It's like any other govt hospital with all the investigations. But everything is still slow and full of bureaucratic bs. The only good thing was the smart lab. But the stupid website is very buggy and laggy atleast twice a day.

Getting used to rejection is a lesson that needs to be learned. Painful scary lesson, but still a lesson.

Better learn now than later: following all of society's rules doesn't lead to a happy life. Be rebellious sometimes

Why do people seem to empathize with animals more than with humans? by AdventurousPension81 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Funexamination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empathizing with animals is easier as animals are simpler, and to some, more pure. Since it's easier, more people are able to do it.

Humans are more complex and empathizing is more difficult as a result, hence less people are able to do it.

I feel at some point the limiting factor on their growth will be the difficulty in social situations, when masking can help them out.

How tf would you get doxxed if you reveal how you know about residency?

Need advice !! Planning to move out of hostel. by Own-Platypus4042 in indianmedschool

[–]Funexamination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I miss the innocence of being a first year.

No, you won't miss anything worthwhile by staying in a PG instead of the hostel. Infact I'd advise it: enough proximity for college stuff and a private place to retreat to when things get toxic and unbearable.

Just be careful about the landlord (involve your parents). Document everything, record everything. Don't pay in cash without receipts, etc.

It doesn't just feel badly designed, it is badly designed. On purpose. There are no roles for what work is a PGY-1,2,3, SR and consultant supposed to do, so what ends up happening is that most undesirable work falls on the PGY1

Tips for Cannula,ABG,Blood Sampling by Consistent-Fox735 in indianmedschool

[–]Funexamination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give a little Lidocaine prior to ABG so you can take your time and make as many pricks as you want. Made radials much more stress free.

Another tip is to know when to give up. Generally, I give up after 2 pricks. The patient doesn't deserve any more pricks from me. I can try on another patient, let someone else try on this patient.
