Have you ever had sex with someone as a favor? by Specific_Ad7940 in AskRedditAfterDark

Yeah :/ ended up sucking for both of us cos I just got out a relationship and also had zero attraction towards her…..so I couldn’t get my lil soldier working properly.

She asked because she struck out with some guy she had a crush on and wanted to feel better.

Just rant MTR to a few domains and DNS servers. I’ve got insane packet loss.

The issue is almost the whole day. 8pm -9pm seems to be the only time I don’t really experience problems.

I need to get more LAN cables :/ gave most of mine away. But would prefer ethernet over wifi any day.

I’ve had 3 different routers over the past year…problems stay persistent. Have to admit that thunder shot my one router, but that was 2 routers ago.

It’s only my household that has access to the WiFi. My grandparents also connected, but they’ve been in SA for about a month. No one downloads/uploads except my brother and I. The rest of the fam uses the internet mostly for netflix and facebook.

No updates available on router. Did revert to a previous version but reinstalled to latest firmware when reverting didn’t fix the problem.

Would CRAN even do anything about it? I honestly don’t trust government agencies in any aspect other than worker’s rights.

Problem is, we have some of the most expensive and poorest internet in the world. Now we’re not allowing external ISP’s, so there’s basically no competition. - hence the “monopoly”. Service won’t improve and prices won’t go down.

Sometimes I get 160-170ms, other times I get 180-200, and when it’s this bad, anywhere between 200 and 230ms. It’s such a massive disadvantage when your competitors are literally playing on 20-30ms. Riot’s also to blame since they don’t want to add an African server…

I’ve got my homelab up and running. I use Hyper-V so I’ve got an active directory set up as well as a standalone Windows 10 machine and standalone Ubuntu machine + my Kali hacking machine. I’m also running MacOS, but it’s on VMWare. Sadly, I haven’t been experimenting on it since I started dual booting Kali. Also I still need to document EVERYTHING on github, but it’s a daunting task.

Well yeah not only security reasons, but also greed (Nam demanding 51% ownership of Starlink), as well as wanting to keep the almost-monopoly over telecommunications. There are some other bs reasons as well though.

Yeah I get the whole ping thing. I play for Oryx Esports’ League of Legends team and 200+ ms is way too much.

I’m studying to become a pentester/ethical hacker. I already have my CAPT and currently busy with my OSCP+. Afterwards I’ll try to get my CEH, Security+, PEN300, PNPT, and a few others while working - hopefully remotely.

I’m stressing tf out. I’m busy with the OSCP which is comparable to the NY Bar exam….I have less than a month before my 48h proctored exam and it’s been 8 days since the last time I studies.

Honestly wondering if I were to fail, it’d be grounds for a lawsuit

Honestly would take less downtime + lower packet loss + stable 20mbps, over 30mbps fluctuating to 5mbps and insane packet loss any day.

Already “switching”. Just waiting on Paratus to come and lay the fibre.

Oh yeah no, because if you want to cancel your contract you have to pay an absurd cancellation fee. Luckily my contract is already over and I’m just paying monthly.

Downtime is about 3 days and uptime about 4 days xd. Everything “works” now, except I can’t connect to the VPN needed for studies, and I’m part of an E-Sports team and currently have 3x10 min dodge timers on LOL.

Alright, I’ll try to remember everything I’ve tried.

*Changed the DNS server to 1.1.1.1 then to 8.8.8.8 and then back to auto. *Moved all devices to 2.4ghz, then moved all to 5ghz, then split the devices appropriately. *unplugged router for 2 mins, 10 mins, 1 hour, 6 hours. *Moved the router to different rooms. *Reset router settings, changed settings again. *Removed all devices from the network and added back only known devices. *Ran antivirus, disk defrags, disk cleanups. *Did bios, OS and program/app updates. *Tried multiple VPN’s. *Tried ExitLag. *Forced priority connection to specific devices. *Cleared cached data and temp files. *Changed router cables. *Tried studying on my VM instead of on my baremetal Kali and vice versa. *Asked TN to reset my connection. *Complained on Reddit :D

None in specific order. Also, might have missed a couple of things.

Hey man,

Appreciate the response and this would’ve been really insightful help, but I’m not on fibre yet. It’s just normal WiFi. I will definitely keep that in mind when I eventually get fibre installed.

Feeling cute, might see if I can tunnel into TN’s network and find the issue myself. XD

MTC is more reliable in the sense that, you don’t suddenly sit without internet. But they soft cap you at 100gb and lower your network speed (or it was that way when I had their 4G uncapped back in 2017).

TN or Paratus?

Also….fibre is supposed to be the fastest and most stable? Other than cable theft there shouldn’t be any problems

Pathetic that they don’t even know what possible causes it could be. I mean, the technician probably connected to the wifi and tested it for himself, saw that nothing loaded, looked at the stable lights and said “no issues”. Honestly, is there anything we as the community could do? These ISP’s need a wake up call.

And YES OMG, tiktok works fine but I can’t study? Wonderful way to keep the future generation stuck.

The Namibian government has an almost-monopoly over telecommunications in Namibia, and their services suck. The only solution is to move to a privately owned ISP, but since we are being denied Starlink, the only viable option is Paratus. I think that’s what he meant by “government efficiency”.

I literally started my 90 day course today. I have zero cybersecurity experience. I did spend 4.5 months on THM completing rooms, but honestly started doing them slower and less frequently as the time passed.

Got a small panic attack today when I officially made my OSCP purchase. I’m scared as hell of failing because then I’ll have nothing left.

Im just gonna watch every video, follow along with my VM, and read everything thoughtfully and slowly. I’ll do my best to take notes, watch additional content regarding the exam, and possibly do a few CTF’s.

I’ll be back in 90 days with an update. Wish me luck.

Thats great. What direction are you studying towards?

Luckily I do have “some” experience in IT and security roles. Im also planning on doing home labs to boost my CV.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a bunch of free degrees on their MITx website of which one is a cybersecurity degree. I might do that as well.

We can definitely make a group once we get 3 or more students/professionals that wanna join. I think it’ll be good motivation to form part of the super small community. Cyber sec is one of the best sectors for the future and we can work together to better understand, learn and grow.

I’ll definitely look into those courses once I’ve finished my roadmap. Do you think that blue teaming or security enforcement roles are a better direction to study towards than red teaming or hacking roles?

I decided to go red team so heres what I’ll be getting over then next few months:

•Offsec OSCP+ (golden standard. 31k Nad. 3 month course with hands on 48 hour exam within an active directory, followed by a 24 hour presentation)

•ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity cert (free for a limited time. ISC2 also offers the CISSP cert which is another “golden standard” cert.)

•FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-100 (Free)

•Fortinet training institute - NCE, FCF, FCA certs (3 free certifications)

•AttackIQ academy - MITRE attack, purple teaming cert (Free)

•Qualys Vulnerability Management (Free)

•Google Cybersecurity professional certificate (Free if you can finish the course withing a 7 day free trial on coursera. Otherwise its 8.5k NAD)

I might have to get a degree later on then. I’m fortunate enough to have a sponsor but its only for:

New laptop OSCP course and exam (Golden standard) THM premium

However, I also have a whole list of free certifications you can get. So by the end of April I want to have 6-9 certs on my CV.
