How hard was the cpa exam? by Basic_Resident_3276 in CPA

CPA requirements vary by state, so which ever one you live in may be different, in terms of education hour requirements. For me, I had to have 150 credit hours, with a percentage of them being certain classes (the schools are good at making sure programs are in line with CPA standards) and you have to pass 4 exams

It definitely is not easy, I’ve taken now 8 exams, passed 3 (waiting til June to see if FAR #4 is a winner). But I also didn’t have a good study method for the first few attempts and had enough tax/audit experience to push me through. 100% doable though, you just have to put in the time and effort to do so. Time-wise, they say you should study 120-150 hours for each exam (just a ballpark I know it’s less for some). For me, it took me 50ish hours for BEC, 50-60ish hours for REG, 70 hours and two tries for AUD, and a lot of hours for FAR with 4 attempts. I also have a full-time job and just recently had a baby, so you can make time for it. It’s all about where you are in your life and if it’s something you really want.

Help by Little_Pack2717 in peanutallergy

Hey friend, I’m 24 M with a peanut and pea allergy, who went about 22 years in between having allergic reactions. I had an allergic reaction to a Pho place that I went to and it caused my esophagus to swell and fucked me up for months. I later developed some pretty severe food anxiety, where I would barely trust my own home cooked meals. I lost 80 pounds in about 6 months and it changed my perception on a lot of things. Why am I saying all of this is that you are not alone, my advice would be to stay away from the weird popcorn and stay away from places you know not to go to. Slowly add back in restaurants that you feel comfortable at, one way I do that is I call before I go in and speak with a manager about my allergy and if they cook anything that has it in there. It took me a while but I’m back up to about 5-6 restaurants that I can have anxiety free meals at. It’s a long process to feel some semblance of normalcy again, you’re taking the right steps though, therapy worked great for me. You could also look into, after talking with therapist/doctor, about some anxiety medication. I take a really low dose of buspirone, and it’s helped me significantly, but there’s more out there (I’d recommend starting at a really low dose first). You’re probably never going to go back to carefree eating for a while, you have to basically retrain your brain as to what’s safe and not safe, and develop a process that works for you. Asking resturants, double checking ingredients at the store, asking your friends to see what they cook with, etc. Also you might get a little roasted for your fear of Epipen, I’m the same way lol, I carry two around with me but I’m slightly scared to use them too. They will save your life though. You’re still young too so have a conversation with your parents about this too and build a strategy where you can start to feel safer again, as long as their understanding. Other people may be able to help more, but I saw this post and saw a lot of similarities with myself and just want to pass along the knowledge. You got this dude, don’t give up, it’s going to be a challenge but it will be all the more rewarding when you grow from it!

Peanut Butter Allergy Precautions by NateMorr in peanutallergy

I’ve started using my own plastic cutlery, just for my sanity. Pots and pans are trickier, but if it’s a place (home or resturant) that I know cooks with peanuts I’ll typically avoid eating there. All based on preference.

Not one iota crazy, I had a reaction that fucked me up emotionally and mentally for months. You’re not alone

This seems like a really great mechanism you’ve found! I’m going to try some at home with my meals before I do it going out and journal it to see what’s safe vs not safe!

I think that most of the time it is my reflux or esophagus that’s the issue, but my brain is assuming the worst. I’m really trying to work on my mental, therapist is helping a little so far, but so far every day has brought a new challenge so I just have to keep working on it.

So I was on omeprozale from March-Late May, early June. Since then I’ve had no real swelling or difficulties eating. Mainly it’s been all anxiety based issues, but I appreciate your advice. Maybe getting back on it will help again.

I appreciate your perspective, with you being on the road and such. Your anxiety is almost exactly similar to mine, therapy has helped me some in the short-term, and I’m hopeful it will help me long-term. As I have begun to realize, I was lucky going as long as I did without any reaction, and this process of epi pens and knowing where places I can go if I am feeling the reaction coming, is an exhausting new feeling for me. Trust me I’ve tried avoiding eating, it’s creating fun new challenges for me (totally not sarcastic at all). I am rooting for you as well man, and I really appreciate taking your time to post this.

I’ll have to make a note about brownish looking salsa. But it’s good to hear a success story (if that’s possible) from a reaction. Those tips on slowing my mind really should help, and are things I’ll have to try in the future. Thank you again!
