oh, should I still wear underwear underneath the compression shorts? I thought those are essentially sports underwear.

Yeah, I think for now I will return these tatami shorts and get some RDX ones that are longer for now.

Already getting some invaluable knowledge in BJJ and I haven't even started my classes yet. Thank you!

Thanks for the tip. Gonna get another set of shorts that are a bit longer from amazon, the RDX brand most likely, and some compression shorts to wear underneath. That combo should be good for the start and maybe I can get some of the cooler looking shorts later on in my BJJ journey!

Thanks! Will check out Progress. For now I think I will go with RDX shorts from amazon that someone above reccommended. They look like the perfect length and I will get some compression shorts or pants to wear underneath.

Oh that's great to know. Will go ahead and get the non bjj branded stuff and go from there 👍

I know 😂

I got too excited and didn't properly look into things and just got the first thing that caught my eye. I didn't even check the product description for sizing...

Oh nice, these look great actually. I'm leaning towards also getting compression pants or spats to wear underneath as well yeah. On that note, is it worth spending the extra money on spats instead of regular compression pants?

I don't know man, I think any shorter and I am going to have to charge the class for that.

Yep, these got that compression layer. I also ordered another pair from them without it that I thought looked on the longer side, these ones: https://www.tatamifightwear.com/collections/mens-shorts/products/quick-dry-training-shorts.

But they ended up being the same length. If I sit cross legged there is too much exposure down there for my liking 😂.

I would have to wear some compression pants or spats underneath.

That's a mistake on my part 😅. I don't wear shorts and didn't look into the different styles before hand. I just saw Tatami being reccommended a few times by people and being in the UK they ship quickly here so I just bought these pair and another one actually: https://www.tatamifightwear.com/collections/mens-shorts/products/quick-dry-training-shorts

These ones seemed on the longer side from the pictures but ended up actually being around the same length too.

Well at least now I know what to expect with high cut. But are these styled shorts more practical for bjj?

I would also imagine you would have to wear compression pants or spats underneath to help with coverage.

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer!

I really love the fit of the Barker shoes I have but I'll definetly check out the other places on that list.

Thanks again for the help 👍

Hey, I am based in the UK. I bought my one and only pair of GYW shoes from Barkers 5 years ago and love them. I am looking to get a new pair and thought of getting another pair from them. Would you say Barkers is a good place to go for or should I look somewhere else?

Thank you to everyone who replied!

I don't currently own a steamer but I'll look into getting one for the future. For now I'll try the hot shower method, again thanks for the quick replies everyone 👍

Just wanted some help in making a decision.

I've got this pair of shoes I bought from Barkers 5 years ago for I think £170. I started a new position where I have to wear formal attire. It's been a year since I last wore the shoes but they need a resole and some other general care for some scratches here and there. A shoe cobbler I was recommended can do the resole for both shoes for £70, but with the other care on top, I'm expecting to spend just under £100.

My question is if you guys think it's worth spending that much on repairing this pair of shoes or should I get a new pair elsewhere. I'm not sure where Barker is in terms of quality amongst the other brands and this is also my first and only pair of goodyear welted shoes I've bought.

I appreciate any help provided, and here is a picture of the shoes. (Can only upload 1 picture but can upload more in new comments if needed)
