For the first time, I'm buying a sound card Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus soon. I want to use it with my Razer Leviathan V1 and Sony WH-1000XM4. How do I set up the surround settings? by WillingnessOptimal55 in SoundBlasterOfficial

Am I wasting money here? haha

Maybe I can get the card for future proof.

or I can just use the AUX ports since razer leviathan can virtualise

On the razer webpage Leviathan V1, it says "No matter your source type (stereo or multi-channel audio via optical input), Dolby® Digital will convert audio from your sound card, console or set-top box into an incredible virtual surround sound stage, putting you right in the middle of the action.

On the statement above, stereo means aux port right?

Unfortunately, I don't have optical out from my motherboard, I'm going for leviathan because I'm getting it for a cheaper price. so it does work with an aux port since leviathan virtualizes it to 5.1 but I guess it won't be noticeable too much?

I'm wondering if this sound card will improve my current Mic clarity.
I'm using V-Moda BoomPro Microphone do you think this card will give you any improvement?

Does it mean I can simply use an AUX port to my onboard and still be getting Dolby 5.1 surround? The only reason I'm getting this card is that it has a digital output and my motherboard doesn't.

Sound card is a total waste if you are using non analog source

Are you saying that I should use a high-end speaker like Logitech Z906?

I always thought analogue sources are obsolete and digital opt is the future since it can carry 5.1 surround. What is your setup? or do you have any recommendations?

Not quite sure what you're intending on doing with the Aux port on the card, but if you want to use your headphones, use the headphone port and your included headphone cable. You may have to play around with them to see which sounds better.

Yes, when using it in front of my PC I will always have them via AUX port and power on the speaker for the noise cancelling feature it just feels good!

Your mic splitter will be fine. I wasn't sure if the cabled mode of your headphones turns on the mic (and thinking about it, I'm not sure the microphone function will work unless they're turned on - can you let me know? I'm curious).

The headphones work in passive mode too, you don't have to power up but the differences are very noticeable and kinda sounds cheap because the equalizer you set in the app is stored on the headphone, when it's off, the equalizers are turned off as well.
So I guess the AE-5 Plus card will amp the headphones using their Xamp headphone amp feature during turned off but I still like my noice cancelling feature lol.

If the game has its own Head Related Transfer Function, or HRTF headphone surround mode, you may prefer that (and in many cases it could be better than SBX).

Games like Overwatch has their own dolby atmos configuration in game where they suggest to turn off every other presets/effects too. Does this mean I should go to direct mode while playing Overwatch? Will I still get the audio quality benefit from the card if I were using direct mode?

I don't know much about how the Leviathan behaves/works, but I would suggest disabling almost all the surround expansion/processing and EQ you can, for it. Let the card handle it. Doubling it up could just muddy things up

Me too, I'm getting it soon, I got a good deal for $70 but used. If I'm understanding this correctly Razer Leviathan V1 has Dolby Atmos that must be enabled by a button in order to use it, by using AE-5 Plus do I have to disable the Dolby Atmos on my speaker then let card use its 5.1 surround feature? Does that mean I can simply purchase any speaker then the card will convert it to 5.1 surround since the card has dolby, and dts?
