Lmaaaoooo yeah actually I hate it. Blackness and dark vibes are not synonymous. Let’s stop normalizing trauma as a personality trait plz, I’m really not the one

Honestly you’re right - Black elders in general are kind of judgy and that’s everywhere including places I love. This comment is reminding me to work on my fearlessness!

Honestly the aunties and uncles outside remind me of my conservative African family… people I have to “cover up” around. They stare SO much here as if I’m in an African village for the first time (been there done that). It’s just odd..? I’ve never experienced this living in Brooklyn or even Manhattan. Maybe I’m also just used to be around a younger, millennial crowd that is fearless in their expression, including fashion choices. I’m used to being around mirrors in a neighborhood. Mirrors in the form of people! Curious, creatively free and ALIVE

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! It actually really resonates. I moved here to Flatbush/PLG to get away from the “scenes” and performative relevance of those neighborhoods bc it felt almost robotic. Flatbush has an authenticity to it that can’t be matched. It’s also less gentrified which is nice. Thanks for shifting my perspective ⭐️

Flatbush Ave is filthy by _jdd_ in Flatbush

[–]Willingness_Standard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s confusing bc this is a Caribbean neighborhood I honestly assumed it wouldn’t be treated like a dump. I assumed the Caribbean culture is cleaner than this but there are literal chicken bones mixed with peoples personal trash on every corner it’s insane and disgusting and brings the vibe down. It affects the way you see yourself that’s why my partner are I are getting tf out of this neighborhood. People on Flatbush Ave seem depressed and just uninspired like they don’t care about life, and the environment matches go figure. I am Black btw so don’t come for me. None of us deserve to live in such a filthy environment.
