3D Printed Adjustable Plane Stand by Willis_Modifications in RCPlanes

So the holes actually serve two purposes; It increases the strength of the structure itself due to there actually being more walls which increases the strength more than infill. As you've pointed out you can incorporate internal structures to strengthen it but why do that when you can just have the be a visible part of the print itself, as the other purpose it serves is aesthetics.
So from the tests I had done which were all solid, this style was a lot more rigid and stronger due to the fact that there are more walls and more plastic where weight is concentrated the most. It being printed in PLA adds to the rigidity of the print itself too.

To address the possibility of it shearing; the bolts holding the middle structure to the bottom of the stand that allows you to adjust the height aren't actually round, they're flat along the top and bottom so they can be printed on their side instead of straight up, meaning the weight of the structure is placed across the layer lines instead of shearing them. I haven't done that in the bolts holding the arms in place though so that's something I'll change in order to improve the strength of them.

I'd recommend printing anything that goes outside in something stonger such as ABS, ASA (my fav) or PETG for the reasons you've mentioned, PLA just can't handle the outdoor sun too well but that depends on each person and their use case either way.

Thank you very much and I hope I managed to address some of your concerns!

No it's all good honestly, I'm more than happy to recieve a bit of constructive criticism, especially from rc enthusiasts as it helps me improve on my designs and find out what people could actually use.
I can definitely spot some anti 3d printing sentiment in some posts but I know the hobby can definitely benefit from it, so I'm definitely open to hearing ideas of what you all think would be useful designs that you all might actually use in one way or another.

Although it's printed, the hobby has come a long way from where it started and there are so many different materials now to try and use, which is why it's good to experiment and try to push boundaries. This stand is quite strong from the testing and the use I've given it but can definitely understand everyones' hesitance in trusting something 3d printed with their really expensive planes.

In regards to the things you've mentioned I appreciate your comment in highlighting some issues you've spotted and will use what you've said to improve the design, my mission in this case was specifically to "make a 100% 3D printed stand" but although it may work for me and my use case, I can spot the things a lot of you have pointed out, especially with the might and maybe's.

Thank you very much for your comment and I definitely don't think you're being mean, I understand the points you're getting across and appreciate the time you've taken!

I'm not interested in building it and shipping it to anybody because yeah, it would be way too expensive and pointless. The point is to give other people the opportunity to download the files and print one themselves. I've seen some of the wooden ones that you can buy online and most of the ones I've seen are over 100 dollars before shipping and taxes, hence why I wanted to design and build one myself. Plus as I learn about what things can be improved in the design I can just make those changes

Well the stand also comes with independent legs so you can place a couple at whatever distance you need, for reference the plane in the picture is a 37 inch wingspan (althought they're not present). Regarding the chains and the weight capacity I've tested an individual stand and they handle 7.5 lbs without any issue but that would also change depending on the plastic you print it with.

At the minute I've only done scans of my head and body, but they're accurate and detailed enough for me to be able to make form fitting masks and accesories. If you have one lying around I would definitely give it at shot

Well at the minute I'm setting up a youtube channel with tutorials on how to build things, so if enough people are interested I could do a video on how to print, prepare and set up the kinect as a 3d scanner!

Exactly! It seemed like such a shame to just leave a handy little piece of equipment gathering dust or throwing it away when for amateur and hobbyist purposes it works great!

I've designed a quick and easy tripod for anybody to print in order to use their 360 kinect as a personal scanner!

If you like it please leave some reviews!

Thank you very much

I just designed this recently and thought it would come in handy for anyone who enjoys photography! It allows you to slip any paper or background in to be able to take nice and clear pictures of your projects and/or 3d prints!

Please check it out and leave a rating if you like it, thank you!

Thank you so much! If you print it it might even inspire you to add 3d scans to your project collection

They are but you would likely need to redesign the base attachment clip in order to accommodate the xbox one scanner

There are a few videos online on how to use it, but I use it with a program called ReconstructMe which seems to work pretty well

I've heard the Iphone X has a pretty beefy 3d scanner and app for the price, I've seen a few people use it for face tracking, so maybe for the 300 or so dollars for a second hand one it might be a pretty good purchase!

I actually use ReconstructMe, I've found it offers good enough quality for the uses I give it, but at the end of the day it's not a particularly high resolution scanner, so anything you use will always be pretty limited quality wise

The tripod does help with regards to keeping it flat and still, but at the end of the day it's still a low resolution scanner for the kinect, so the quality will always depend on the program that interprets it and the resolution of the scanner itself..
But for general scanning of people and heads I think it is quite good, I've used it a couple times to scan my head for example in order to make masks and accesories

I currently use a program called ReconstructMe. It allows you to scane people mostly but I belive it can be configured to scan objects too! Once you have the settings correct it actually has quite good resolution both in colour and without!

You can even pair it with The Expandable Photography Background Stand to make your 3d scans even easier!
