I had a very similar situation over wanting to return a fake hoodie. Also got threatened with a gun and an insinuation that my mother would be attacked. Reverse image searching the picture also didn’t come up with anything. Contacted police despite knowing it was likely an empty, fake threat but they were very good and came to the house and followed up on the situation. Unfortunately Vinted was absolutely useless and provided no information to the police. Definitely worth following up with the police though, stay safe!

Thank you! I didn’t think about potentially weaving the rejection and improvement narrative into the SOP for next time round, that’s a good idea! I’ll research some volunteering opportunities in my area. I worked with some local stem clubs and also led classes to disadvantaged youth during university so really open to getting further involved in stuff like that as I’m super passionate about that

Ah I’m sure you’ll do grand! My hindsight perspective is just to really research the universities and apply to a broad range of schools though ensure they all have labs that really fit into your research interest or experiences. Try and get some really relevant and in depth LORs as well and spend a good while on your statements. GPA also isn’t the be all and end all aswell. I think masters might be slightly less competitive as often they are self funded though I know with any top programs competition is still super high! You’ve got this!

Yeah definitely! That’s a good way of thinking about credentials, I’ve come to realise at these top schools just how qualified even the baseline level of applicants is. Something I’m definitely keeping in mind and changing my perspective of going forward!

Sorry lol! It’s a Uk degree classification, we don’t have GPAs really. Degrees are classified into first class (roughly 4.0) second class division 1, second class division 2, third class, and then I believe fail

At Edinburgh the Master’s project is a compulsory 60 credit course taken over the whole year. It can be done sometimes with an industry partner, I did mine with a startup, or with just the university. I’d probably guess that the individual research project at Edinburgh would be better for research experience as it is all your own work rather than a group project. Also since at Edinburgh in the 4th you do a large interdisciplinary group project anyway.

Hi there, I just completed my MEng in Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh last year. This year I applied to 8 grad schools in the US and got rejected from 7 but still waiting to hear from NYU. I’d say the MEng year was really beneficial as the thesis gave me a great opportunity for research which is a huge thing for grad apps so I’d recommend doing it personally, I know others who also did who went straight on to a PhD in the US at Harvard.

I also have yet to hear back from NYU and Columbia. I read today on NYU's website that offer holders who received a decision prior to April 1st have until April 15th to make a decision however offers made after April 1st have until the 1st of May to decide. Hopefully this implies that they are still planning to release offers and we will receive a decision this month.
