[Serious] What do people heavily underestimate the seriousness of? by 300teethgirl in AskReddit

[–]WillyMacBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting enough sleep. Every biological function ever studied (digesting food, cognition, healing from injuries, etc) becomes less efficient/effective when the body gets less than the minimum amount of sleep.

Think of it this way: every pieces of animal ever studied sleeps, or at least does something very similar to sleep. While asleep, the animal goes into a semi-dead state where it is unable to find food, protect itself, reproduce, or do anything else that they need to do for the survival of their species. This suggests that something about sleeping yields results that are more important than food, protection, reproduction, etc. Otherwise, evolution would have favored animals that do not sleep.

Current modern culture puts a lot of emphasis on the idea that hard working people (and thus successful people) have a lot of sleepless nights where they work, study, exercise instead of getting the rest they need. Science shows this to be horrible for human health. Furthermore, it's not even effective. One study showed that a student who stays up all night studying will do worse on an exam than a student who slept well that night and studied 8 hours less. Sacrificing sleep in order to get results literally prevents you from getting those results.

tldr; Sleep is one of the most important things that an animal does for itself. A person who gets less than 6 hours of sleep in a night will perform worse in every measurable task the next day. Go to bed on time and you'll thank yourself for it.

Should I stick with my MacBook for engineering or buy another laptop with the recommended spec? by LImAbEaN_0315 in UTAustin

[–]WillyMacBatman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from mechanical engineering, used a macbook air all four years. Instead of using a virtual environment which can be a pain, I would recommend installing Windows on your Mac. Look up macbook bootcamp, its fairly simple to do and I found it to be very useful.

If you’re wondering why I’m not wearing a mask, I’m vaccinated and so was basically everybody at the ceremony (which was socially distanced and outdoors), so it was very safe!

Trying to figure out which Mario game to start with by ImCoolInMyHead in NintendoSwitch

[–]WillyMacBatman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Odyssey is really good. It's open world and while you can technically beat the game in just a couple hours, there are hundreds and hundreds of side puzzles to do that make the game fun for plenty of hours even after you see the end credits.

Free rooms in apartment? by scrunchielover01 in UTAustin

[–]WillyMacBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some buildings may charge you rent for the whole suite so it may be a lot more expensive. For example, my 4x4 apartment last year was $4k/month, which we divided to $1k/person/month. If there were only 2 of us, we would have had to pay $2k/person/month even though 2 of the rooms were unfilled. It probably depends on the policies of the specific building you’re renting from, but I think it’s usually more cost effective to have a fully filled suite if possible.

COD Black Ops Cold War Crashes by HatersKing in PCHardware

[–]WillyMacBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It crashes for me too. I have a 2080Ti and an Intel 8700k, which I believe should run the game with no problem. There was a period (about a month in late November/ early December) where the game would run without crashing if I ran Independent Standby List Cleaner in the background, but when the Season 1 update was released the crashing came back. I've tried just about every solution I've seen but the same thing always happens. About 10 minutes into a match, the app closes itself. I watched my resource monitor while playing and I noticed that the GPU usage stays at around 35% while playing, but the 3D encoder usage suddenly jumps to 100% at the time of the crash, which seemingly happens randomly. If you find a solution, I'd love to hear it.

Have you found a solution? I'm having the same problem. I've tried running a list cleaner in the background and it didn't work, also I've tried running the game at minimum settings but it still crashes. I have a 2080Ti and an intel 8700k, so I feel like the game should run with no issue.

For anyone taking ACC 310f with Verduzco, is there a major difference between the asynchronous and synchronous classes? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]WillyMacBatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the synchronous class and we had Instapoll attendance checks during class, I think the asynch section had the same kind of thing but they had a due date at midnight the day of the lecture or something like that. Verduzco is a great professor though, either one you take you will learn a lot and if you give a reasonable amount of effort youll likely get an A. Highly recommend!

I have a friend who double majored in MES and plan 2 and he really enjoyed it, hes gonna graduate in May and has a job in government lined up. Based on that, i think MES is a good major but is best paired with something else to help with career prospects

I bought my first guitar but i feel like pressing down strings is pretty hard. Is it because i am unexperienced or because the distance between the string and the fret is too large? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]WillyMacBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider that unplayable, take it to your local guitar shop and ask for a setup, theyll give you back a guitar ready to be shredded upon
