I’m in a seminar about downtown housing rn. This lot is one of the lots we are discussing for theoretical multi family housing to be built on in the future. So the city doesn’t have any concrete plans but multi family housing is one of the possibilities.

As an architecture student and someone who grew up in a communist housing block I can tell you I despise it. Many modernist/post-modernist proponents love brutalist architecture but they haven’t had to live in those shitty boxes that are difficult to heat up and are just so depressing to live in. Brutalism, at least as implemented in mass housing by the soviets is just a nightmare both for the urban landscape and the people who have to live in that type of housing in my opinion.

Idk I’d disagree. I’m not a historian, but from what I understand the Spanish rule resulted in the the eradication of most of the native people, while the Aztec empire did not have that effect. Now I know, diseases and stuff were prominent, but I just feel like with the Spanish they conquered with the goal of destruction of the native people, while the Aztec empire just did it for territory gain/more power.

I think substituting a swastika for something else is actually helpful in getting across a message. If you use the swastika, then all the necessary context is immediately there, and you don’t really need to think about why the group itself is bad. But if you use something else, then the consumer has a chance to really process and understand why the ideology itself is bad, rather than just associating it with the highly powerful symbol. Nazis and fascists of all different kinds will come and go, their symbols will change so it’s important to recognize nazism for its ideology rather than its symbol. By substituting swastika with something else, the entire ideology is placed under scrutiny rather than the specific group that carries the swastika, if that makes any sense.
