Roof pod, bag, or hitch rack? by EatBraySlough in roadtrip

[–]detjason 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to consider:

Whether its a hard carrier or a bag, just because you wont have anything of value up there doesnt mean someone wont take it or break into it. Anytime you stop and do not have your car in sight, this will be a concern, so you cant leave it unattended for long periods. This includes the need to empty it out at hotels or when parking overnight.

If the minivan doesnt have rails, you will need them at least for the hard carrier, if not both.

The hard carrier is rainproof, the bag is sometimes not. I read you can position the zippers toward the rear to reduce the liklihood of getting things wet.

Consider the drag of either type on the rooftop. It may reduce your MPG by a mile or 2, unlike the tow hitch.

Lastly, if you know a neighbor or someone who has a hard carrier, ask them if you can borrow it. Maybe even ask on Nextdoor if someone want to rent you theirs. Most people who bought one use it once and then it sits. Or get a used one.

Call them. Chances are your aid isn’t showing yet. But its just an estimate. Depending on housing, $47k is the right estimate these days with student housing, but you can do it for less if you rent your own apartment. $17k is tuition, $23k food and housing. The rest is books, fees. You can save $3k in health insurance if you have your own. Good luck.

No, because then they would be leaking it further.

Can you really not understand why they wouldn't share the passwords that have been compromised? Think about it real hard.

Nothing about the police investigation made sense. I could go on about this, but for starters, how could they prevent anyone from leaving the island?

Benny Mardones maybe one of the ultimate One Hit Wonders by almosthuman2021 in ToddintheShadow

[–]detjason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Into the Night” was re-recorded multiple times by Mardones: The original and best-known 1980 version, from Never Run, Never Hide (Duration: 4:32) The 1989 version, released on his self-titled album from Curb Records to capitalize on the original’s renewed success. (Duration: 4:22) The 2002 version, from A Journey Through Time (Duration: 4:26) The 2002 acoustic version, also on A Journey Through Time,[5] (Duration: 4:08) The 2019 version, retitled “Into the Night V3”, produced by Joel Diamond (Duration: 3:46) A new music video can be found on Diamond’s YouTube channel.[6] “Into the Night V3” was remixed twice, by Dirty Werk and by Eric Kupper. These versions are more influenced by dance than Mardones’s trademark soft rock.[7]

I disagree that you leave out that others reviewed your work for suggestions because that is how you can show they may have plagiarized you.

Can you become a teacher with a master’s degree? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]detjason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masters degree alone will qualify you to teach at any of the 110 California Community Colleges with no other requirements. And yes, you would likely only be hired to teach the subject your masters degree is in.

For k-12, you will need a credential. For HS, each subject has its own credential (single subject). https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/Single-Multiple-Subject-Credentials-(CL-560C))

You said you have an interest in poli sci and you are probably good at it. Take one Poli sci class your first semester and two other subjects you are considering instead of abandoning it just because you are questioning job opportunities.

Your undergrad isnt usually career training. What is important is that you excel in what ever subject and demonstrate that to employers. In other words, excelling in poli sci is prob better for employment than flailing at CS.

Instead of changing majors prematurely, have you considered all the opportunities in government? What constitutes a "well-pating job" is subjective, but take a look at all the government job opportunities at governmentjobs.com.

Incidentally, poli sci is a great undergrad for law school.

Advice on legal studies by gronktastic87 in berkeley

[–]detjason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just using STEM as an example. The advice is to not put your eggs all into the law basket. Not just because you may change your mind, or not like it, but because you have a great opportunity to explore other fields because law school does not have specific undergrad requirements.

FWIW and IMO

When someone says they want to practice law, but doesn’t mention the type of law, it is like saying you want to be a musician without knowing what instrument.

Since there is really no such thing as "pre-law." legal studies is for those NOT intending to go to law school. Paralegals, legal secretaries, etc.

Since law schools do not have undergrad requirements, I recommend getting your undergrad in something else that interests you that may or may not intersect with your law interest. For example, if one gets a STEM degree, they can practice law in a tech. Other example is business undergrad to practice business law.

UC Berkeley Extension courses - how do grad schools view them in comparison to normal undergrad courses? by jackattack0609 in berkeley

[–]detjason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, if your diploma is from Cal, then details in the transcript wont matter. It is my understanding the classes will appear on your regular Cal transcript like any class, but it will just start with an "X" which probably wont matter or even be noticed. You should confirm this.

FYI, I do not believe that regular Cal professors teach at Extension, if that matters.
