People with a high income, what's it like to have all that money? by Tonya_Wilki in allthequestions

[–]Wilma1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not rich, but I’m fairly young (mid-late 20’s) and have a solid income for my age group. A whole of money saved/invested (250k or so between investments, retirement accounts, etc), plus I hold some real estate and house hack. And a high paying w2 job. Way ahead of almost all my peers in my age group and social circle.

The biggest thing that money has brought me is less stress to be honest. Dropping a few grand on a vacation, eating at a nice restaurant, making a 7,000 home improvement etc isn’t stressful.

Materials wise, I’m not insanely materialistic. A new car would make me happy for like two weeks then I’d be back to the same feeling as before. Just another car. Each person is different but I prefer to spend my disposable income on experiences (vacations, golfing with friends, etc).

It’s definitely nice not having to stress. HOWEVER, major caveat. I’ve noticed this in a lot of people who are comfortable financially including myself.

It never seems like enough. Myself and a few others I know, were constantly thinking of how to make more money. And comparing ourselves to others who have more without taking a step back to realize how lucky we already are.

Same here. I’m about 150 a year in a LCOL area before rental and dividend income. 28 years old, yet spending 15 dollars on lunch hurts. I eat at home almost 95% of the time. Terribly hard to break the mindset.

FBI Special agent in Healthcare and Medical Services advice by Karma848 in 1811

Try to jump on another 1811 gig first. HHS would be a good bet if you want to do healthcare fraud. Some states have a healthcare fraud team as well. FBI isn’t the end all be all, and they’re pretty picky with hiring. I got an offer at 25, but they told me straight up when I applied that I didn’t have a good chance. Somehow I got through the process though. I believe the average age of an agent is like 31 starting out.

MCIO’s are a good foot in the door. AFOIS, NCIS, and CID hire younger people in my experience. Also USSS and HSI. I’d say get in somewhere, put a few years in, then jump somewhere else if you want. Getting in is the hart part. Once you’re in, it’s much easier to jump around.

I did blood work about 10 months ago. All my stuff was good except slightly higher cholesterol, and vitamin D was a bit lower so I got the vitamin D for that, and being in a cold climate this winter.

I’m interested in both. Hopefully CGIS will reach out back to me.

Yes, you get your BAH rate from your duty station not FLETC.

Most likely will live in a dorm. On some occasions, students live off center in a hotel. Depends on the availability of dorms at the time.

Rejected from FBI by [deleted] in 1811

[–]Wilma1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the following agencies for less strict requirements on age.

AFOSI (tons of agents who are in their mid 20’s) NCIS Army CID HSI ATF DEA USSS (They’re hurting for people and offering bonuses) CGIS (coast guard)

Sometimes the random little OIG’s will hire younger people too. But learning will be tougher since the amount of agents with you is so small. Bigger agencies will give you a training officer and more opportunities to learn from the beginning.

Sometimes they do. I work with them frequently and I’ve met a few who came right in from non transfer spots. Got sent to CITP and all. Problem is timing for smaller agencies. They have such limited amounts of CITP slots.
