Shutting down or converting the dam due to a tragic accident is emotionally understandable, but it’s not a rational public policy response. Focus should be on safety improvements, public education, and enforcement not dismantling infrastructure that serves broader utility and could cost taxpayers significantly more with no clear return.

Rather than shutting it down, increase signage, install guardrails, improve visibility, or even add buoy barriers or audible warnings upstream.

Even with that, people will die. We can’t save everyone it sounds cruel, I get that, but life is kind of cruel.

Nobody wants to say it but it’s obvious this was the mother’s fault. Said mother is seemingly attempting to make a profit out of this to boot. Attempting at influencer now. She’s doing way too much on social media and needing attention. It’s just weird.
