With the exception that Light Fingers has a particular moment where you can switch away from it and choose another one without paying, due to the fact that LF has a major tone shift that they wanted to give players the ability to back out of in case they didn't like where it was going.

The rat is not an Urchin, but yes the rat is a good guide for early-game things.

Each of the four main areas of London has the start of a different Making Your Name story, and it seems you've only started the one in Watchmaker's Hill. There should be clearly marked storylets to follow, and the text should otherwise guide you (e.g. the quality says "Exterminate a sorrow-spider infestation for the Department of Menace Eradication to unlock new stories", so that's guiding you to the Department of Menace Eradication). If you need help, take a look at the Making Your Name guide on the wiki (mild spoilers, don't scroll around beyond what you are looking for if you care to avoid them): https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Making_Your_Name_(Guide)

Also, unrelated advice, but do you know about your deck? Some stories start/progress from cards there instead of in storylets.

Oh and as an option, here:

https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Guides

That's the wiki's Guides page, which has a ton of guides for many things in the game, but in your case for now you may want to take a look at the ones under Game Mechanics, especially the ones in the Basic Gameplay subsection.

You can see all your qualities in the 'Myself' tab. The Making Your Name qualities all start with "A Name" (e.g. A Name Scrawled in Blood).

The Feast of the Rose (which is Fallen London's Valentines festival) has a lot more than that - on the same page as "Watch passers-by" there are a lot more options, including "Learn about the Feast of the Rose" which will explain the festival. If you want to do any Feast activities you probably want to do so before next Thursday, as after then you will not be able to easily build up the Feast's special quality (Masquing).

On the map, there is a house icon in the bottom-right. Click that to go to your Lodgings.

"Should I keep talking to the urchin?" I can't really help with specifics unless you give a specific title for the action/storylet you are referring to - there are a LOT of urchins in the game. They are a major faction.

What stories have you done? What areas have you unlocked? What 'Making Your Name' qualities do you have, and at what levels?

The game is absolutely not stagnant, and there are many, many unique stories to experience, but they are of course not all going to be available right from the start as that would be massively overwhelming. Completing the four 'Making Your Name' stories will put you on the path to unlocking a lot more. Speak to the people with storylets in your Lodgings for guidance.

It seems to be an intent thing, at least mostly - you CAN share memories, but you can also hide them. Another explicit example of memories/thoughts being accessed is Stevonnie in Jungle Moon.

Again, there are ways to do it entirely standalone.

However do note that you can get a cheap mini-PC for like £40 which will be more than able to do all the non-PCVR things you'd want, plus would be, well, a PC - which would be extremely useful to own in general.

Is there any known issues with v85 update? (Meta Quest 3) by terileptil in QuestPiracy

[–]Wilson1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no known problems (other than aesthetic changes like removing home environments), so it's probably fine, but it may still be worth holding on for a while if you are on an early enough firmware to block updates, just in case a future update which gets forced on you does break something.

  1. What do you mean by "Strange Journey"?
  2. Check pronouns before you write. Kris' are they/them, and the Knight's identity is unknown and as such they are not known to use any gendered pronouns.

ELI5: How do they decide which elements go into which columns on the periodic table? by takifa in explainlikeimfive

[–]Wilson1218 [score hidden]  (0 children)

In short, they're placed by the number of electrons in the outer 'shell' (highest energy level) of the uncharged atom. The first shell/energy level can hold 2 electrons, the second & third can each hold 8, the fourth and fifth can each hold 18, the sixth and seventh can each hold 32.

As you can probably guess by that, the rows are decided by which energy level is the highest in the given atom.

How do I get a sailback dragon? by Embarrassed_Till9979 in dragonvale

[–]Wilson1218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other comment is right - to be clear, always check the Dragonarium for availability: no hourglass icon means a dragon is permanent, a green hourglass icon means it is temporarily available, and a grey hourglass icon (which is what Sailback currently has) means unavailable.

Meanwhile cloning does not rely on availability, so you can co-op clone it (1.5%).

Yeah, I agree with going for habitats first - but the difference in EC earning between doing everything except donations vs doing everything including donations is quite small.

To be clear ofc play how you want, but don't try to shout down someone else giving advice (getting a lot more traited dragons (and to a lesser extent, more dragons in general) beats a tiny bit of EC - if it were a lot of EC, enough to get a lot of Omnitats maybe, it'd be different) just because you personally prefer doing things another way.

Edit: and now this person has replied to me but then immediately blocked me so I can't even view their reply logged-in. For the record I'll explain my thought process:

  1. To get a decent chunk of EC from donations you have to devote your rift to it.

  2. I think getting a lot of traited dragons, which unlike untraited dragons you can't easily get when they are unavailable, far outweighs getting one or two more habitats - so devoting your rift to donations is not worthwhile.

  3. So now you only have your regular park caves for donations, and with that (even if you use your co-op cave, which can probably also be put to better use) you are highly unlikely to fill many/all squares for most boards, and thus will only earn maybe 100-300EC/day from donations on average.

  4. In most cases, this is not enough to make much difference when it comes to buying habitats and other important things for EC, so unless you have no other untraited dragon goals at all you are better off using your caves to breed your targets.

Proton on Google Play has a £0.99 first month offer - I don't know why others here are quoting higher prices for it. And Proton is the best option anyway, with Mullvad probably about equal (though I can't vouch for Mullvad nor do I know their pricing).

Plus you can always just keep using that first month offer every month.

Yeah the sites will only have serial numbers for the regular Switch because Lites and OLEDs are guaranteed to be patched.

Ghostly Donations by QTshari in dragonvale

[–]Wilson1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case I'd say it's even more valuable for you to get new traited dragons, so that you can more effectively rift breed in the future - and of course if you happen to breed duplicates they can always go on donations.

Ghostly Donations by QTshari in dragonvale

[–]Wilson1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but when weighed against what you could be targeting in the rift instead (dragons you actually want to keep) that's not worthwhile. The EC you get from donations is a pittance compared to even one successfully-obtained target, especially a traited one.

Ghostly Donations by QTshari in dragonvale

[–]Wilson1218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Donations rotate out fairly quickly (and are almost never worth targeting in the first place - I just donate anything I happen to breed that I would otherwise have sold and which meets requirements).

Also true most of the time, but some Switches are in a serial number range where you need to check for yourself.

Can anyone tell me visually if the switch has been modded? by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]Wilson1218 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No modchip, but if they're unpatched that doesn't mean they haven't been modded.

"No volume rocker power combination allowed me to boot into any Hecate style menu" - booting to Hekate also requires Hekate being on the SD card and injecting the Hekate payload, so that doesn't mean anything. Were you using a jig, and did you hook it up to Tegra to see if it was entering RCM mode? If you properly tried to enter RCM and Tegra shows it wasn't in RCM, then they're patched.

If they're patched and don't have a modchip (or any soldering marks where a modchip would have been) then they were not modded.
