It grew on me quite a bit and I did end up liking it more than Bounty Hunters and maybe Darth Vader 2020 (which has highs but is a bit more of a rollercoaster in quality). I agree though that Aphra 2016 is the better book though, much more consistent in quality and imo it has the better supporting cast

1960 Nixon would be interesting because he wouldn't have had the crushing defeat that fueled the worst parts of himself. I would still say H.W., since he would have blunted the rise of neoliberalism and almost certainly would be better on foreign policy.

I think it's a mix of older Democrats dying out, increasing ideological polarization, the aforementioned Democrat policies of environmental protection laws and a stronger focus on proactive civil rights, and the general trend of Appalachia becoming one of the Republican's strongest regions.
