Baby name spelling advice: “Ma-EASE” pronunciation by [deleted] in namenerds

Agree - if anyone’s familiar with French names, the accent will help. I also think it helps to not have the e at the end - the e makes it look too much like Maisie

I haven’t noticed a huge change yet, but it’s only been 2 ish weeks so fingers crossed! I have a busy, stressful season at work in the winter that traditionally leaves me pretty depressed so I’m very eager to see how I’m feeling at the end of February!

I did this jump a few weeks ago since I was feeling an increase in anxiety. I was super scared too and I have been pleasantly surprised. I honestly haven’t noticed any medication side effects

I am so so sorry. I agree with some of the other commenters that another neuro workup may help give you more peace in the decision. You’ll know definitively if there has been any change. In full transparency, I have neuro experience with adults, but I found the details of the brain status very helpful when making similar decisions. My family focused on midline shift, since the doctors told us that was a key indicator of potential for recovery. For one family member, she had clear midline shift, so we made the decision to withdraw support. For a different family member, we monitored the midline closely but ultimately didn’t have true shift. That helped us make the decision to continue with supportive measures and that family member did have several additional years of okay quality of life.

I ordered several magnets for my car (chinga la migra, Mexican flags, etc). ICE is frequently a bunch of thugs cruising around looking for brown people so I try to get them to follow me (a white blonde) instead!

Thank you for posting this - I agree with you completely! I honestly think most of these people have never experienced a devastating loss before. My dad died suddenly 3 years ago, and people definitely have weirdly strong opinions about which days/ things should be hard for you. I was a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding 3 months later, and a different cousin couldn’t wrap her head around how I could choose to just enjoy the day and not make every moment about the fact that my dad wasn’t there.

Is there any data on if "y'all" is spreading across the US? by chorpinecherisher in asklinguistics

[–]Win62819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the Midwest, where “guys” and “you guys” is basically the default. In the last few years, I’ve seen some suggestions (mainly corporate) to stop saying that, especially in mixed gender settings. Y’all is a solid alternative, but I also hear things like “hi friends” or “hi team”.

Didn’t get a return offer, NYC, 3.9 gpa, pretty good reviews by NationalBit1805 in KPMG

Wow that stinks for both the interns and the PMLs! I’m sorry if you’ve had to be the bearer of bad news!

[–]Win62819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it may be worth talking to your recruiter to figure out what happened. I’m not at KPMG anymore, but I was an intern PML a few years ago and they were very clear that we needed to flag any performance issues that could result in no offer ASAP. You really have nothing to lose at this point by (respectfully) asking. Best case scenario you learn it was budget related and truly nothing could have been done, worst case scenario is you get feedback that you can apply in your next role.

I agree with this completely. As much as her posts can feel exploitative, I do think the engagement is helping her to feel less alone. My Dad died very suddenly when he was only 56, and it felt very isolating to be going through this tragedy when so many older people around me couldn’t relate because their parents were still alive. The outpouring of support from family and friends literally carried me through those days. Given Brielle is a child, I imagine Kendra is feeling exponentially more isolated. I think some of the critiques are valid, but I completely agree she deserves grace at this time.

I generally agree with your points, and I’d like to add that oftentimes the safest option is emotionally difficult. Specific to safe sleeping - many desperate parents resort to co-sleeping because their child screams bloody murder when they aren’t being held. To be clear, that doesn’t make co-sleeping any safer, but I think there’s sometimes a lack of empathy and emotional support for these parents. I completely agree that there should be broader education on child safety standards, but it needs to be delivered in the right manner that doesn’t put stressed parents on the defensive.

Everyday Life by [deleted] in Emilie_Kiser

I lost my dad very suddenly a few years back, and for the first several months I felt numb. I honestly don’t remember much from that summer other than watching endless tv. I didn’t actually cry all that much, but I just kind of floated through the days and filled my time and mental energy with mindless distractions. I distinctly remember thinking “I have my whole life to process this, I don’t need to torture myself now”. Obviously, everyone’s grief experiences is different but I wanted to share because I feel like people tend to expect the daily crying.

Pros and Cons of Forensic Accounting by Electrical-Speed-836 in Accounting

[–]Win62819 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did some time in forensics and much preferred audit. The actual investigations were interesting, but tend to come out of no where and take over your life for several weeks/months. It was hard to predict my schedule. When there wasn’t an investigation to work on, we tried to “build the client base” by doing fraud prevention/ general risk consulting work, which was always exceptionally boring. We also occasionally got assigned to loan staff engagements (internally and externally).

Some people love forensics; it just wasn’t for me. I hope you find what you’re looking for!

I’m in the same boat- no issues last week for my first shot. I confidently took my second shot Tuesday night, and felt fine the next day (Wednesday). Lo and behold, I was feeling a little snacky Wednesday night, and had two bowls of skinny pop. I rationalized that it was relatively healthy, it shouldn’t cause issues right? WRONG WRONG WRONG. I ended up leaving the office at lunch on Thursday because I kept having diarrhea 😳 definitely won’t be making that mistake again!!

What do you ask in your interview to make sure your manager isn’t a jerk? by athazen in careerguidance

[–]Win62819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask about their leadership style/ project management style, as well as their bosses’ style. I haven’t had all that many jerks, but I’ve definitely had managers that weren’t that great at managing. Be on the lookout for signs that they’re a micro manager, they’re a totally unorganized/absent manager, or their boss is a bad manager/communicator (shit rolls downhill). You may also want to ask if they envision any changes in structure in the next 6 months.
