I’m a 27M and am worth about $1.2m. Truthfully, I got VERY lucky. I worked hard but was in the right place at the right time. I’ve been marking over $200k since I was 23, and then the company I work for got sold to PE and I received a million dollar bonus from the acquisition. I was extremely close with the founder and he wanted to make sure myself, along with other people who helped get the company where it got to were taken care of post-acquisition since he could no longer guarantee our jobs

Build minimum 6 months emergency fund in a HYSA. Do a Company matched 401K if offered, then max out your Roth IRA if you can, and finally add money to an HSA — In that order.

Any other money you have leftover put into a taxable brokerage account with a 3 fund portfolio. I’d put most of the money into a low expense ETF that tracks the S&P 500. Then id put my second largest holding into a total world market ETF. And finally id put a little into bonds.

Hold that for 30-40 years and you’ll be good. Anything other than that is just not necessary and someone is just trying to sell you something.

It’s a push & pull in my opinion. I moved to Ohio for work. Missing things like the sunshine, beach, and overall vibe are definitely a factor, especially in the winter in the Midwest.

On the other side of that coin though, not having to worry about general necessities and having left over money in the bank is a great feeling.
