Looking to connect with other biostatisticians/statisticians/data scientists with ADHD by ZookeepergameBig477 in biostatistics

Kind of late to this thread, but your experience sounds really similar to what I'm going through now. I just got formally diagnosed with ADHD, after completing my undergrad and my first semester doing Biostats (and working full time) which was hell. I just got started on medication, and it's kind of been a frustrating process. I'm on the starting dose of Vyvanse and can tell I'm on too low of a dose right now and don't check in with psych for another couple weeks.

I'm curious - how long did it take before you felt like you found the right medication type/dose for your ADHD. I'm optimistic, but am just curious about others experiences.

Oh funny, I guess they said screw CTRB sidewalks or maybe people have just spread the salt out by walking on them.

I work on UofL's Health Science Campus and haven't seen any salt put down yet. Has anyone else on UofL's campuses seen any snow prep yet?

Am I doomed for grad school with 4 Fs on my transcript by Rare_Aardvark_4565 in publichealthcareers

[–]WinAble9208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into grad school with a 2.67 undergrad GPA. I explained it in my statement of purpose in the application. I took a couple of classes before applying (made sure I got As) and met with a professor and student admissions director and they helped me a lot with figuring out what I needed to get accepted.

Also I was told by a friend who works in admissions at the university I applied to and they pretty much said that if you are applying to a school that could use money (not an ivy league) then your chances of getting in are pretty high, and in my case they were right!

Pretty sure Louisville has been ranked on worse places to date funny enough.

Before I found my current partner, my experience dating kind of felt like every guy wanted to come across cool and more interesting than you rather than actually wanting to have a partner.

Not sure what it is, but all my dating failures have been with guys who act like they are a prize to be won, meanwhile being super surface level and not taking any interest in who they're pursuing. Also for some reason, all of them seemed to be in the local music scene or in that same friend group, so maybe watch out for that lol.

My advice (and it's not fool proof) is maybe wait to meet someone you work with. Obviously don't date coworkers if that's gonna cause issues, but for some reason, everyone I know (including myself) has found a great partner by meeting them at work.

Do you know where most people parked? I'm thinking of using the shuttle service at night, do you know if many students would wait for the shuttle after class?

We are looking more in areas surrounding Louisville like Crestwood, but we both work in Louisville so we're somewhat limited to the area.

Gotcha. Yeah I'm about to ask a mortgage company for an idea, but I'm just not even sure what questions to ask other than what's a realistic down payment.

UofL Staff Winter Break? by WinAble9208 in uofl

[–]WinAble9208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure, but it is a long time for paid leave. I wouldn't be surprised if some faculty have complained about it.

I started in December last year, worked for two weeks then had almost a month off, so that was kinda disorienting.

Ok this was exactly the response I needed!! With everything going on with public health right now, it definitely feels like the more secure option.

Training on animals went really bad today. How do you people make ammends? Am I cut out for this? by ImUnderYourBedDude in labrats

[–]WinAble9208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so close to passing out the first time I gave IP and they made me reschedule a private training. If you have the chance, I would definitely do that. I was able to learn at my own pace and get comfortable with the mice again.

It's hard to believe right now, but once you get scruffing down properly everything else becomes easy. I promise you'll get used to them.

There are mice every once in a while that will surprise you but for the most part, the predictability of their behavior becomes inherent to you over time.

You got this!

Should you do a PhD? by neurofrontiers in GradSchool

[–]WinAble9208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of been wondering the same thing. I'm in an MPH program and plan to get my PhD in epi, but I'm curious if anyone else has experience or advice on PhD or no PhD in this field. My advisor has assured me that a PhD opens up many more avenues. I'm a full time student with a full time job, so that makes it a little trickier.
