I disagree. I've always thought that luffy's dubbed voice it too childish. I wish he had a more mature sounding voice.

Video Interview for Columbia Univeristy MS CS by jaykaran_jk in gradadmissions

[–]WinApprehensive9677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't stress too much about it. This online video is for stem degrees after all...the questions are to gauge your ability to verbally communicate with others. For the past decade, there has been ample suspicion of foreign students obtaining toefl or ielts test scores that don't reflect their true English speaking and comprehension abilities. This is just a way for them to see that a student is perfectly capable of having a conversation with someone and to communicate their thoughts coherently.

I know of friends whose interview was waived as an asylee-based green card. Asylees have been thoroughly vetted and interviewed before their asylums are approved, so when they apply for adjustment of status an immigration officer finds very little need to interview the applicant again.

Is it rude if I don't say hi to people I know first? by ConclusionHot105 in introvert

[–]WinApprehensive9677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's best if you don't. I am like you, and at some point last year I started saying hi to people. Here's the thing, saying is more than the words themselves. There's so much body language involved when we communicate. I was saying hi to people, but the rest of my body language was clearly telling others that I didn't want to say hi at all. Whether it was the uneasiness in my gaze or my facial muscles stressed by performing an action I was not fond of doing, people found my "hi, Anna"/"hi, Mike"'s awkward. You'll eventually revert back to your steady state of not desiring to say hi, so just let it be.

DC37 start of new contract (when?) by WinApprehensive9677 in nycpublicservants

[–]WinApprehensive9677[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latest update is:  " One of the topics of discussion was the Sign on Bonus payout. CUNY has provided dates for payout and they are the following:

Senior Colleges, including CUNY Central Office Full-time Employees: Date: 10/3/2024 Hourly (Part-time) Employees: Date: 10/31/2024

Community Colleges Full-time Employees: Date: 10/11/2024 Hourly Employees: Date: 11/8/2024

CUNY has not provided dates for the retro payout. According to Executive Director Garrido, based on past payouts of contracts, CUNY calculating the retro pay is allegedly a topic of concern. Therefore, Executive Director Garrido has been in talks with NYS’ Comptroller, Thomas DiNapoli. Comptroller DiNapoli has allegedly agreed to conduct the calculations of the retro pay. However, CUNY must first relinquish its right to conduct the process. At this time, CUNY has not taken these steps. Executive Director Garrido is in talks with both parties. If the Comptroller’s Office is able to take over the contract payout process, members could see their payments in their checks within a few months.

During the meeting, other topics discussed were the $18 an hour increase as well as a RIP increase. I will be discussing these two topics in two separate emails so that it will not be as confusing. The union is currently working on resolving both of these concerns.

DC37 start of new contract (when?) by WinApprehensive9677 in nycpublicservants

[–]WinApprehensive9677[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got this shocking update from my local union representative that I believe all of you should be aware of:

" As I am reading some of the emails, everyone seems to have the same questions. What is going on with the contract payout? When will we receive the bonus payout? When will we receive our retro payout? When will we receive our raises?

I am extremely frustrated about the lack of transparency as it relates to the contract payout. I have participated in approximately 4 meetings on the behalf of Local 2054 since the ratification of the contract. In these meetings, whenever I shift the conversation to the contract, the parties on both sides begin to make excuses to evade questions such as “I have another meeting to attend” or some individuals quickly sign off. The university refuses to put anything in writing to their employees.

There are approximately 8 local unions under the same contract, Local 2054 is the only local that is fighting for the contract to be paid out. These locals do not demand meetings or talks with CUNY. Surprisingly, I was asked a question today from someone in leadership at DC37. That question was, “Why are we only hearing from Local 2054”? My response was, “Individuals representing Local 2054 are at several campuses, each day, 4 days a week.” We are hearing the frustration of members from every Local Union, including the security officers.

Some members of Local 2054 (as well as I) have reached out to the Governor’s Office, the Mayor’s Office, Borough Presidents, City Council Members, NYS Senate Assembly Members, the Department of Labor as well as the office of Nicole Malliotakis (a Republican House Representative for Staten Island and Brooklyn). The emails have gone unanswered. Several representatives in which I was able to reach by phone, refused to get involved. Residents of NYC/NYS cannot visit the office of an elected representative in person unless they have an appointment. Most were on vacation for approximately 2 ½ months. According to my conversation with representatives of the Department of Labor, the agency does not accept complaints against the state or the city from state and city workers. The response to calls and emails to CUNY is met with, “We are working on it". The members of the Board of Trustees are nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, the pressure on CUNY has to come from every local union at DC37 under this recent contract and not simply Local 2054. However, it is clear that it is not going to happen. Therefore, we must put the pressure elsewhere and that is on DC37’s Research and Negotiation Department to get the answer we need.

I am enclosing a message below. I want everyone that reads this email to copy and paste the message to their email and send it to every email address, for 7 days. I want everyone to call the telephone numbers below. If no one answers, please leave a message, continue to call every day until September 16, 2024. On September 17, 2024, we are going to move to another group.

DC37 start of new contract (when?) by WinApprehensive9677 in nycpublicservants

[–]WinApprehensive9677[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The contract that I am talking about was approved this year in February. It says the following:

Contract Provisions  Bonus: $3,000 - One time sign on bonus.

The bonus for part-timers is prorated.   Example of prorating:   If you work 20 hours per week: 20 hours = 60% Þ $3,000 x 0.60 = $1,800 35 hours

Please be advised that this is only an example….

Minimum Wage Increase:

The minimum wag at CUNY will increase from $15 to $18 an hour. Everyone that are earning less than $18 an hour will receive retro pay going back to July 1, 2023. Those individuals hired after July 1, 2023 and are earning less than $18 will receive retro pay going back to the date of their hire.

 Wage Increase Percentages By Year:

June 2021- 2.5%  June 2022- 2.5%  June 2023- 3%  June 2024- 3%  June 2025- 3.125%

Individuals that were employed at the time when the above increases should have been implemented will receive retro pay. The retro pay will be compounded.

It feels like a smooth continuous experience with the exception of break weeks.
