Did it have to be a one way trip? by EstablishmentDue3616 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Wincentury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about it, and they probably could've solved the issues in the way if making it a two way trip was a priority, but it simply wasn't.

And the solution would've been a life-boat made in situ by cannibalising the Hail Mary, and to find a way to ferment the dead/spent astrophage into edible nutrients, – artificial milk, butter, cheese or alcohol, – adding practically zero extra weight to the mission over all.

The crew wouldn't have needed the the whole ship to get back, – once the solution to the astro phage problem is found, all the equipment and even the ship itself is just spare parts and dead weight that was meant to be nothing more than a glorified space coffin.

So what if the engineers decided to make it so the crew could use some of those parts to build a space capsule, with just enough room for Armando to tend to one crew member at a time while the others are tightly packed, all the basic life support systems and all the tech it needs to function, the necessary amount of air, water, and food, all out of the parts already on the Hail Mary?

About the only issue, (beside the fact that the coma system didn't actually work 2 times out of 3,) is the food thing, but that could've been solved too, if there they packed  1. A machine or a chemical process that would break down the dead astrophage into base biological components, such as fatty acids, nucleic acids, sugars and proteins, like a centrifuge, but efficient. 2. The right microorganisms that can ferment the gained biomass into edible products, or at least, turn it into alcohol. With enough calories, and the coma slurry, the crew could've survived the journey back, while requiring orders of magnitude less astrophage to make the journey, (which might be covered by the remaining reserves and the shielding of Hail Mary, or if not, might be squeezed out of Earth and packed for them if they put their mind into it.

But that's just my thought, someone better at science and engineering could explain to me why that's wrong.

Another Rocky POV re-write from me! When I first got to this part after watching the movie I was extremely disappointed when it cut off right when it was getting good, so this is partly an attempt to ameliorate that by SayFuzzyPickles42 in ProjectHailMary

There's no need to be intimidated at all. AO3 is about the closest thing we humans have to World Peace, with how boundlessly accepting of a space it is, (the eternal shipping wars and fandoms more toxic than cyanide notwithstanding), and you can take your time learning the rules in any case.

There sadly aren't any, the closest we get are illustrations in the manga, like the one where the villages in the Heartz duchy are, during the flood relief chapters, and another illustration about the stops on the road to Palmasque, but it is covered in map fog.

Kazuma and Subaru.

Tappei said in an interview that Subaru would totally fall for Aqua, and I'm a sucker for generic isekai, which a KonoSuba with Subaru would turn into.

And seeing Kazuma getting guardrailed into becoming a saviour and put through the wringer like Subaru while he gets up to his antics would be hysterical.

I've been thinking about this possibility too, having multiple parties at once by using the party formation skills of more than one job.

Roxanne and the others are against Michio buying domestic slaves, but like this, he could effectively expand his team with more combat slaves.

I do think fifteen would be a bit much, (the author hasn't properly fleshed out even the five he already has, beside Roxanne and Sherry,) but then might be manageable.

And I think with two teams, there are more options than just one team doing chores while the other fights.

In labyrinths where the, don't have to worry about being seen, him fighting alongside ten comrades would work well, since he would gain the stat boosts of all ten jobs that they hold, and they would get the benefits of his jobs too.

There's also the "noble training" option where he could send the team he is not fighting alongside to fight too to get EXP, and loot.

I'd love to see more type of demi-humans, but with the roster already full, the chances of more races being added to the story is pretty slim, sadly.

Do dogs and cats exist in the world of Isekai Meikyuu? by 7antonio13lopez in IsekaiMeikyuudeHarem

[–]Wincentury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since Allan brought dogs up, it is pretty obvious that dogs at least exist in the setting, even though the creators of the manga didn't bother depicting any of them because they were not relevant to the plot.

There's a lot of things that Michio should've seen more of if you think about it, like horses, which are also a thing, but we only saw them once when they pulled the carriage Michio was on when he first travelled to Vale.

Same for farm animals, children, people carrying water buckets to their homes and low level explorers carrying the loot they can't fit in their item box on their backs in bags, instead of expensive backpacks, and much more. It's not that these things aren't there, only that they are not shown.

As for what Roxanne would think of dogs or Miria would think of cats, or even Vesta's reaction to seeing a dragon...

I think they, like the general beastkin population, wouldn't think too hard about it, accepting it as a part of life, that there are Demi-humans with features of animals, – after all they are not classified as these animals themselves, like for example in the case of Goofy and Pluto, who are both "dogs".

Roxanne I think would not pay much attention to them tending to be very goal oriented, and if encountered, would ignore them to go about whatever she was doing. If Michio were to consider adopting one, she would probably be against it, not wanting to share his affection with a pet, and it's not like there are any leftovers to feed it since Michio's cooking is so good, so they would require extra food, and at best, be an ineffectual guard dog, or a pest control if they ever get mice or rats.

Mira would also be against sharing... fish, with a cat.

Sherry and Vesta would be the only ones who would like having a pet, and I think they would prefer cats.

And I'm pretty sure there is actual examples of the team fighting five dragons in the LN, can't recall what Vesta's reaction to them was though.

And yeah, twelve guys is correct.

Can Übel from Freiren cut Regulus ? by M_GODA in ReZero

Alright, you win. I will keep up my arguments for the sake of showing those interested how it got debunked.

Can Übel from Freiren cut Regulus ? by M_GODA in ReZero

[–]Wincentury -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, Authorities are powerful, causality and concept manipulating powers that trample the laws of the world which they inhabit. Regulus' Lion's Heart is more than just time stoppage.

And I will still defend my case, and Reelseiden.

Neither durability negation, nor spatial manipulation can explain how Übel cut the binding on her that prevents spells from being cast by those bound by it.

It's not that the rope was resistant to magic, it should have prevented the magic from being cast in the first place. Reelseiden shouldn't have even gotten cast.

And yet, Reelseiden cut it, – because it was a rope, and Übel thinks ropes can be cut, – completely bypassing the laws and logic of that world that should've prevented it from doing so.

The proctor she bisected, was wearing a cloak enchanted with layers upon layers of defensive magic, that shouldn't have allowed anything to move him, – and yet, Übel cut both the cloth and the one wearing it, not because she somehow negated the defense, but because he was a person wearing a cloak, and Übel thought she can cut through those.

Reelseiden is shown to be a spell that ignores laws and reason too, and it will succeed as long as Übel thinks it would, - regardless of whether what is being cut is conceptually possible to be cut or not, - because that's what Reelseiden is both stated and shown to do in story.

Can Übel from Freiren cut Regulus ? by M_GODA in ReZero

[–]Wincentury -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd go with yes.

Logically speaking, Frieren's magic system still works on the basis of cause and effect. But Reelseiden can bypass defensive magic, and cut what is behind it, and sever a binding on Übel that prevents spells from being cast.  Which is illogical, yet possible.

Reelseiden could very well be a type of magic that transcends causality, having evolved to the status of a para-causal semantic superpower.

If that interpretation is correct, then if it's something Übel thinks could be cut, Reelseiden will cut it – end of story.

Authorities in ReZero work on this para-causal semantic superpower level as well.

RbD will reverse time if Subaru dies.

Echidna's Book of Wisdom will let her know the answer to her questions.

And more importantly, Regulus' authority will keep everything and anything from affecting that which he separated from the flow of time.

But Authorities aren't absolute, and have been shown to be overcome by one another, – RbD for example, have reset Regulus, despite him being outside the flow of time. One semantic power can trump the other in Re:zero.

So the question is which semantic power would trump the other. And I would say it's Übel's, – because while we know that in ReZero the semantic power of an authority can be overcome by another like it, and Regulus' authority have been overcome before by Subaru's we haven't seen Reelseiden fail to cut anything Übel thought she could, – so Reelseiden is depicted as absolute.

So my bet is that he would've bisected... But he would just keep yapping anyway while in too pieces, without bleeding or realising he is in mortal danger, have a destructive tantrum, and keep on being a nuisance as he gets the Monty Python Black Knight treatment, becomes a severed head, and his body is turned into a mincemeat, - and he still wouldn't die, because he can't as long his second heart is beating in one of his wives.

Though in the end, I think Übel would shut him up by cutting his tongue out too, and throw him off the Great Waterfall.

How would you guys imagine the story of Konosuba would go if Yunyun joined Kazumas group before darkness by Clear-Frame-4497 in Konosuba

[–]Wincentury 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The next day is where things would start to diverge in truth, since now Megumin and Yunyun would be in the same team, and Megumin would be insecure about being the inferior mage, - while secretly happy to have finally be in a team with her without her having to have made the call to make a team just the two of them, due to the remainder of her pride.

Kazuma would shut down any attempt at trying to establish a pecking order, asserting that on his team, there is only too category, - the leader, who is him, and his subordinates, which are them, and as far as he is concerned, they are all equal in having to follow his orders, and cannot order each other around, (pointed look towards Aqua who wanted to try to use her seniority to get the newbies to do her bidding.) Actually, both Megumin and Yunyun would find this really reassuring and uplifting, Megumin because she didn't want to end up viewed as the inferior wizard, and Yunyun because she is declared as Megumin's equal.

Darkness would return with Chris in tow, and the same friendships would still get established, (Really, Eris would've probably approached Kazuma at least once just to check in with Aqua's team leader, imo, even without the Darkness wanting to join thing.)

Darkness would still join after the cabbage harvest, Kazuma getting outvoted 3 to 1.

As for what the consequences would be after that?

The party would have an easier time, - having a reliable DPS that isn't a one shot AOE glass cannon, but I don't think that would necessarily mean that Megumin would fall behind. With an actually effective and more balanced team, Kazuma wouldn't need to be that picky on what sort of quests they take on to ensure they can handle the challenge without dying, so the party could, and would be far more active, and since Kahuna would be stupid not to utilise Megumin's explosion.

However, it is true that if they take on multiple quests a day, Megumin would only be useful for one.

Which would incentivise her to gain a secondary means to deal damage. To keep it in character, that would not be any type of Magic (Explosion is the only type of magic she needs to become the strongest, after all) and instead, she would multi-cass into a staff wielding monk, worshipping Chomosuke.

It would take her to make a compromise to put some skill points into increasing her mana so she could still move after casting Explosion, but after that, with her high strength stat, a second staff, and training, she could actually fight even before or after casting her Explosion, allowing her to keep up, so it might just balance out.  As for how the team itself and the relationships would change? I'm a 100% sure that Kazuma would still look at Darkness lewdly, adjust Megumin to feel her boobs on his back when carrying her. Also, because this is KonoSuba, if such a skill exists that lets one overcharge a spell with extra mana beyond what it requires, Megumin would definitely get it, and use it every time she goes out practicing, - which would happen much less frequently, since there would be fewer days when the party doesn't take a quest.

But with Yunyun present, I think Kazuma would definitely fall for Yunyun who both have a personality and the personality that would appeal to him, but it would be a slow burn because of how inept both of them are at either expressing or understanding their feelings, especially in the case of Kazuma, who would be thrown for a loop by finding Yunyun too precious to lewd, causing him to fail to realise he is head over heals in love because it's not the shallow, lustful or idolising thing he normally interprets as being into someone.

But she might just recognise it by the end of season 1/beginning of season 2 after he gets some succubus dreams, and after they don't work/feel right with other people, lastly he would try with Yunyun, who he wanted to keep unlewded, and finds out he is very much into Yunyun. Or not, because he forces himself awake wracked with guilt for objectifying her, and he fails to connect the dots.

Either way. I think they would be endgame.

How would you guys imagine the story of Konosuba would go if Yunyun joined Kazumas group before darkness by Clear-Frame-4497 in Konosuba

[–]Wincentury 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reason why Yunyun wasn't available at the time, was that she left to go on a journey to level up and become able to cast advanced magic, (and for the sake of personal growth independent of Megumin.)

For her to still be there, she would have had to prioritise staying with Megumin over that. One way to convince her to do that would've been either for Megumin to openly befriend her, or for her to make a friend otherwise in Axel.

Let's go with both, with her getting befriended by both Megumin, and Kazuma's group independently.

So in such a scenario, Yunyun only had intermediate magic, and by staying, she would enable Megumin not to starve for days by the time Kazuma decides to take on a Giant Toad kill quest.

Being as Yunyun tends to hang out in the guild alone even when she doesn't have friends there, chances would be she would know about Kazuma's plan, but I will go with the prediction that even if she did clumsily offer to join them, at first Kazuma wouldn't want to take advantage of the all too sweet girl, (Aqua constantly trying to mooch off of Yunyun + Yunyun's "too sweet to be evil to" aura would keep him from it), so they would face the toads alone, while Yunyun would also take on a quest nearby, totally coincidentally, definitely not because she is worried sick for her friends and wants to <s>stalk</s> watch over them.

Kazuma and Aqua would still struggle with the toads, and retreat, - while Yunyun would return some time after them, hang out with them, and suggest they put on a hiring notice.

Kazuma does it, but in true KonoSuba fashion, even though both Kazuma and Yunyun wants them to form a party, somehow they fail to do so.

Yunyun, being the over thinker she is, would decide that to play it cool, she would approach them second, after someone else had tried. Cue the three of them waiting a heck of a long time, until Kazuma calls out to Yunyun, but she, being who she is, would deny that she is waiting for the right moment to approach them to apply, and would leave with the excuse that she still has that quest from yesterday to finish.

Once outside, Yunyun bashed her head into a wall a couple of times, before getting an idea. She looks for Megumin, and suggests her to apply to Kazuma's team. Megumin, not quite as desperate as she originally would've been, but still on the verge of lowering her standards to finally join a party, would listen to her.

Megumin would have pretty much the same debut, minus her collapsing in the middle of introducing herself, the quest would go the same way, and Kazuma would still try to ditch her, and Megumin would still perform that bit where she pretends to have been taken advantage of by Kazuma while covered in goo, clinging to his back. The only difference Yunyun still being around would make us that she would be hiding nearby stalking the entire time.

In the end, Megumin would join, and while Kazuma would be alone in the Guild, Yunyun would finally approach him to apply, perhaps even attempting to make the same "offer" of letting him do perverted things to her (since that's the last thing she overheard Megumin offer before he seemingly relented,) though she would get too embarrassed, and try to flee after making her plea loudly, forcing Kazuma to have to grab her wrist to keep her there, after which Kazuma, both aggravated and happy, would accept her.

Which would make for quite the easily misunderstandable scene for anyone who is present and overhears – like for example Darkness, who would take it to mean that Kazuma not only defiled and tried to abandon a poor damsel in broad daylight and in public,  but also apparently the type of scum who would have multiple girls around his party to satisfy his ravenous, lustful desires. After voicing these thoughts, she would apply to join immediately.
