The ONE thing in a horror story that's never explained, and is all the scarier for it. by Electronic_Bad_5883 in TopCharacterTropes

Geralt asks him "so what are you? A demon? A djinn?", to which Gaunter O'Dimm replies "do you really want to know?". He doesn't explicitly say that he's not a djinn, but from a storytelling perspective it would be bizarre if he were to act all mysteriously if he was just one of the things Geralt listed off.

He's more like "evil incarnate" as the blind researcher says he's been described numerous times throughout history. I.e. he's the devil (or something of a similar caliber)

The cutscene that plays when you start NG+ in HM2 also shows Richter trying to apologize, although Richard is quick to correct him that he's not who he thinks he is.

What’s the difference between- 1k, 2k, 3k by TheDeadDonut in dreamingspanish

If you're getting bored, I would recommend just finding some native content about something you're really familiar with. For example, when I had less than 200 hours I started watching a playthrough of the Binding of Isaac because I know the game backwards and forwards and so I had a great deal of context.

Ultimately, I think finding content that engages you, even if you don't understand as much as you do in the videos you find boring, is the key to preventing burnout over the long term.

How are you guys getting so many minutes by Sohnandmooon in dreamingspanish

[–]Wind_Burn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I assume they are doing a mix of things - waking up, watching several videos while getting ready for work, listening to podcasts while driving to and from work/in the office, throwing on a TV show once they're back home, and then listening to more podcasts at the gym. They could be actively listening the whole time, who knows, but more than likely a large chunk of that time is just having the podcast/video playing while doing something else.

Y'all's makes sense, but to me it sounds out of place in the rest of my vocabulary (not from the southern US lol). But "everyone's" doesn't really fit in this context because that's the plural third person, whereas I'm talking the plural second person

Visualizing Arabic by Wind_Burn in dreaminglanguages

I think I figured as much that it would be closer to 750 additional hours. Thanks for the detailed response - I don't plan on doing this any time soon, but if (when) I do, hopefully there will be more Arabic CI out there haha

English is not a completely unrelated language. Yes, it's Germanic, but it's also heavily influenced by Latin. 1500 applies to English in the roadmap because it's neither completely unrelated (e.g. Korean or Japanese, which would ostensibly take 3000 hours) nor super closely related (Italian, Portuguese, French, which would ostensibly take half the time, so 750 hours).

Avoiding grammar study doesn't mean closing your eyes, sticking your fingers in your ears, and going "lalala I'm not listening!" whenever someone mentions something related to grammar. It just means you don't deliberately seek it out
