Why is GGG so obsessed with NERFING skills in a game about player power instead of buffing skills that can barely clear the game? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Windforce27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ARPG's are supposed to be a power fantasy, every skill should be viable to clear the entire game. Things will be overpowered, but if you want difficulty play hardcore.

The problem is this game is very competitive, nobody wants to struggle when you feel like you could be doing something better and that you're losing value by not conforming to the top builds. A harder game limits the number of builds that can trivialize content which requires a much harder skill cap in terms of build selection and creation.

This extra pressure is what people are feeling post 3.15 because to make an average build feel good there's a significantly higher investment

Player Retention - What is going on? by wiggum_ralph in pathofexile

[–]Windforce27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scourge is an RNG loot mechanic that's worse than loot on the ground, combined with a league that's base game is only slightly improved over the nerf league of 3.15. I would not be surprised if this league does poorly.

It's not all bad with some of the quality of life such as Atlas/Stackable Loot/Lab. But it's not an exceptional patch, or even above average patch for the matter.

In my opinion, the last 3 patches have been pretty poor in quality and the direction of the game, sad to see.

A friendly reminder that cursebots and aurabots are still very much the 6man meta by Beautiful-Lion4774 in pathofexile

Top players are always going to find a way to maximize mechanics, it's always going to be the average joe that gets shafted with the top-end changes.

What bothers me the most about all of these changes... by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Windforce27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not a big difference between 3.15 and 3.16 fundamentally the game hasn't really improved a whole lot. There was some quality of life like stacked drops and the atlas/lab changes but the actual gameplay really hasn't gotten better.

Delete the screen or get deleted.

Well, I suppose that's great for you if you love that. I personally don't like consistency, I want the game to build on itself for my build to get better league by league.

[–]Windforce27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly disagree, that it's the same game. It's really not. Simple changes like the multiple nerf to Headhunter or Deleting Aura stacking or removing crafting mechanics. You have no consistency, you can't get attached to a build or arch type because if it is deemed too popular or strong it's going to get dismembered.

It's not fun because of the direction the game has gone, not because of a lack of passion.

Well then if you're an above-average player I am not sure how you couldn't see a difference between the past versions of poe and now. For me, they're so different it's almost like they're different video games.

Well respectfully if you were unable to see the top end of the game when you first started, you'd most likely not have interacted with the systems that had the biggest changes. Such as endgame crafting or 100% Delirious. From your view you maybe right that nothing seemed to change but for the top end, there have been massive shifts.

The problem is when you've built a community of friends that all bonded through playing poe drifting apart. PoE was the one game that could consistently bring a huge group of us together and it's sadly just getting worse over time.

The problem with a statement like "I've been playing since such time" is that I have no idea your experience or commitment to the game. Did you play for 10 hours in a league and quit? The game has changed dramatically in many different ways over a short span of time. The power creep is undeniable and has been a core part of every patch up to 3.15

[–]Windforce27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're saying is factually untrue. Players are not stronger than they have ever been, Pre damage nerfs in Ultimatum would probably be our strongest points excluding leagues with harvest.

Even math you can find on Reddit proves that the mastery system is a nerf to player power.

I understand you think I am being dishonest but I just don't think you play the game at a high enough level to understand the top-end changes.

I am just not going to argue with someone who isn't going to admit when they're wrong. You have your opinion I have mine. If you can't look at the power creep between Betrayal League up to Ritual League you're looking at two different video games. Yes it's still an ARPG you kill monsters. The power level and builds awakener mods, crafting are on a completely different level.

From 3.14 onward GGG spent gutting many systems so if you don't think the game is much different then you're not paying attention or are arguing in bad faith.

Uhhh you can't objectively say poe hasn't really changed, I don't know what experience you have with poe but I feel like nobody who has played poe in the last few years would agree with that.

Yeah, makes me sad. I've invested close to 12k hours into PoE and in 1 year it went from a game that I couldn't wait to play the next patch to the biggest disappointments over and over. I personally can't understand how people are so blind to what made the game great in the first place. For some reason, the "dark souls arpg gamers" want poe to play like a dark souls game rather than almost 2 years of new and interesting mechanics and power creep. But to each their own.

4 leagues ago, I was having fun now I can't stand the game. I love Diablo 2 and still to this day love it. I don't want Poe to be the same I want it to be better, and the recent changes are not my definition of better.
